I dont know where you would find these types of figures or if you even could, but I got to wondering what percentage of winter olympians were black. For that matter it would be interesting to compare summer to winter. yeah I am sure there are underlining stereotypes behind this question, but I am still curious. Lets hear what you think. Percentage of Black athletes in Summer and Winter Olimpics.

Total guesses but I would say: Summer 30%
Winter 5%

What do you think guys, I am going to try and find some figures.

Is it even 5%? I would say even lower. Anyone know a black winter athlete in these games?

As you alluded to, the stereotype is money. Most winter olympic sports are diversions for affluent people (with the exception of hard core countries like Canada/Norway etc, where they have no choice but to play some of this obscure stuff).

Even the summer olypmic sports that white americans excel at you see some of that.

I like it though. White people are being phased out of pro sports, might as well take what they can get in the more expensive/specialized amatuer sports.

I dont think it is all expensive/ specialized
Also there is a skill set needed.. I am not saying blacks cant do this so dont label me a racist..
I played hockey.. Ever try to navigate the ice, head up so you dont get crushed, puck on the stick, all on a 1/8 inch blade of steel..
Skating period is hard..
Anyone can jump and throw a ball towards a hoop or tackle someone..
How difficult is it to jump and dunk if you are 7 foot tall??? (save Shawn Bradley)....
Try Skiing???? going that fast with trees and the like..
It takes a certain amount of practice for these sports rather than just being "gifted"

here's what I know about the winter olympics. They are extremely boring. Summer Olympics are so much better.

Lets face it both summer and winter are pretty boring...
Track and field doesnt interest me.
but niether does the biathalon...
stop with the ice princesses and gymnastics too..
It all pretty much sucks...
I think I would watch the World Cup over the olympics..
At least theres a chance of a good crowd riot in "football"

Vonetta Flowers is on the womens bobsled team. She already has a gold medal from last Olympics. Like Herschel Walker she made it because of her track and field skills.

What's her name from Colorado was a damn good figure skater a while ago. I'm so glad I don't remember names of figure skaters.

I think it pretty much comes down to geography and history. White people came from places with snow and ice, black people did not. Yeah, people have moved (and have been forcibly moved) around the globe, so now there's a little diversity in those sports. But I doubt it will ever change much.

LOL at "white people being phased out of pro sports".

Hockey is a great exception to what I said, because it is an institution in the areas it's played. It is THE sport. So, expensive or not, it is widely played across economic lines.

But most other winter sports require a ton of expensive equiptment, which I would say make it more available to wealthier people.

Clearly there is still great skill involved. I'm not saying you can just "buy" talent in winter sports.

Anyway.....the real question, is what betting options are there for the Turin Games???

Across economic lines...
Read up on John Mullen of the Devils
He came from a much tougher area than 90% of the "I need my street cred NBA guys"
He is as good a person as there is...
But the true question is What odds can I get on the Czechs to win gold ..because they will....
