VA Commonwealth vs Northeastern 01:00 pm Northeastern -4

VCU?s swarming D is thwarted by both being on the road with only one day between games, and by a cool-headed, senior point guard Barea on Northeastern who leads the nation in assists while scoring 21 per game. Northeastern, a new member of the CAA, is basically a total stranger to VCU -- a team capable of some long offensive droughts. Northeastern?s quick tempo could put the visitor out of reach in a hurry because shooting themselves back into a game is not their forte. Preparation nightmare for VCU?s Jeff Capel and staff, and coming off a game against a much sloppier Towson team probably can?t help their cause.

Arkansas LR vs Troy St 08:30 pm Troy St -5.5 blowout

Can you see it already? Arkansas-LR?s rebounding machine Jonas-Jennings can?t get his hands on the unusually long boards from the Troy 3-ball shooters, and he commits some fouls in the process of attempting to get them. Meanwhile, Troy applies pressure D on the inexperienced UALR ball-handlers and the rout is on.

nc Wilmington+7.5

Better depth for Wilmington, who, when the week began, had more point-spread wins (14) than anyone else in the nation

Rhode Island vs Massachusetts 07:00 pm Rhode Island +8

RIU played pressure defense against inexperienced point personnel on UMass to beat them 10 days ago, making every other prior UMass opposing coach staff look like total idiots for not using the same tactic while UMass was dancing on their heads for the early part of the A-14 schedule. That?s why only Jim Baron has been a candidate for a Big East job. Road-dog bucks home revenge.

Virgina-3.5

Truly, this is a Demon Deacon squad that is stuggling as they've dropped seven of their last eight on the scoreboard and have failed to win or cover in four straight overall. They're 0-4 SU in conference road games this season as they've been plagued by turnovers and the inability to create steals. I their most recent loss at Miami, the Deacs managed to produce just one measley steal in 40 minutes of play. That ain't cutting it folks.

Wake, which has managed only to beat a down Georgia Tech team at home in conference play this season, has a solid point guard in Justin Gray. But it is the Cavs' Sean Singletary who will be the best backcourt player on the floor this afternoon at University Hall (where Virginia is 8-2 SU and 5-2 ATS this season).

The electrifying sophomore ranks third in the league in both scoring (18.1 ppg) and assists (4.88 ppg). He teams with J.R. Reynolds (15 ppg) to give the Cavs one of the ACC's top backcourts. Former DePaul coach Dave Leitao has done wonders in his first year in Charlottesville. His team plays great defense and has done a good of protecting its home court (2-0 SU/ATS most recently with wins over North Carolina and Miami).

Still, after losses at Duke and N.C. State (by two points on Wednesday in Raleigh) the Hoos are ready to get back on the winning track. They'll find success against this Wake team that doesn't force turnoevrs and has allowed conference opponents to make better than 46 percent of their shots this season.

Virginia is 5-2 SU/ATS in the last seven meetings at University Hall versus Wake. In fact, the Deacs are 10-29 SU all-time in the building that will be closing after this season. Chalk up one last setback for the Deacs there as Virginia will score this win and cover today.

Have got to agree with you on this one, although the line seems a little low to me. Wake has really stunk things up so bad and Prosser is still trying different line-ups. Wake has the atheltic players, they just don't play smart, Drum is really coming into his own of late and taking a little pressure off of Gray. I look for Wake to start playing better but not today. As you said Charlottesville has not been kind to the Deacs.

Washington -5

Washington State point guard Derrick Low could be back
as early as next week. That means he won't be in action
today, when Washington takes the floor with revenge for
a game they lost on their home floor to Washington State
last month. Low did not play in that game, but since then,
Washington State has lost six in a row to six different
Pac 10 opponents, not coming close to the 78 points they
scored against Washington.

Obviously, everyone else in the Pac 10 has figured out how
to beat Washington State with Low out. Washingon now has
the blueprint to take with them. Pressure the ball. They do
that excellently. They also come in doubly ticked off,
revenge-minded and off an OT loss vs. Stanford.
