No, it's not odd. If the books move off a key # like 4, then they stand to get hit and middled by smart money and big money. And they would have to move right back to 4. They just have to take the public money on Pitts and hope the line is good.

Money does not move the line. Line makers move the line. Have you ever bet a chalk and the line dropped and the chalk covered ? Have you ever bet the dog and the line went up and the dog still covered ? Money does not move the line, except at a small scared book. People that think that the house wants 50 /50 and they are happy with the juice, should not bet. Vegas likes Seatt. Yanno, Vegas doesn't hope. They may get it wrong but they don't hope.

The line for this game would have been a pick, cause no one knows what will happen. As Bob Scucci at the Stardust said, the Ptts team has a huge fan base, and they travel...these are people who have been Steelers fans since the 70's, and they are now in their 40's and just bet their team, from all over the country. So the line was set because of where the money would be, that's obvious.

Of course "Vegas" does not liike one team or the other, because NO ONE knows who will win, unless they think they do, in which case they are delusional. Vegas linesmakers set the line to divide the money and not leave themselves exposed. That is not brain surgery to understand, it is simply common sense. No sportsbook director is going to take a side on a game and then try to explain to the management upstairs how they got it wrong and lost a couple million on the superbowl. But once the line is established, you can't move it without consequences.

i think vegas uses software that is not available to us and they do know who wins and by how much... too much $$$ riding on 1 day to be messing around.

Yep, and that software is housed in the same Nevada hangar where they staged the Moon Landing and the previous Superbowl games and the Iraq war. Good example of an idea that is based on no factual evidence whatsoever. I'm sure there are a few Vegas Sportsbook Directors that wonder why They don't have copies of this magical software. moon1

On a more serious note, of course the pros that make the lines have software and databases, we all know that. And so do we. But the fact is that NO ONE knows who wins and by how much. We can set some llines, but we don't have the ability to predict accurately. For example, chess programs have reached an advanced stage now. but you can't program sports programs in the same way, mainly because you can't predict the bounce or the intangibles. If we had such software, then that would be the end of not only sports betting but of sports. BECAUSE YOU WOULDN'T HAVE TO PLAY THE GAME!
