I realize Detroit is good, but 35 points in the 2nd quarter alone??? I thought Detroit would be the tired team but Miami is getting absolutely embarrassed. On national TV no less...

what is new?

I really thought they would show up today though. Home game on national TV against a team that has been on a road trip... I think Miami should have won this game. Like I said, I know Detroit is good but this game speaks volumes about Miami's heart, or lack thereof.

why anyone would play against Detroit in a game that matters is beyond me.By that I mean, you have to think Detroit knows this game foreshoadows a potential playoffs matchup w/ the Heat. They are far & away the best team in the NBA at this point. Miami stands around & waits for Shaq/Wade to do something in almost every game. I'd buy back a Miami bet at half @ this point (but i played detroit). Even if shaq scores another 20 points in the 2nd half Detroit will still blow them away.

I thought about that. At +3 there's a LOT of room to get screwed though when you had Miami -1.

Completely different scenario. Good teams get blown out on the road quite frequently. Home court, for one reason or another, is a HUGE advantage in hoops. And that Dallas game wasn't on national TV with the whole world watching.

I hope you're right. I wouldn't be so worried if they were playing an average team, but it's the Pistons. I would be floored if they won the game outright. I would actually be kind of surprised if they even outscored the Pistons in the 2h. I don't think I can hedge with such a low number though.

ummm... TNT thursdays is a national audience...

it wasnt just a blowout... it was by 36 points... those kinda defeats are rare... when two contenders go at... if you can still call Miami a "contender" then the game shouldnt be decided by 36... no matter where the setting is

I didn't realize that was a TNT game. My bad. I still don't put as much stock into a good team getting blown out on the road. Whether that means 12 points or 36, it's a blowout to me. No matter how good a team is if they get down by a bunch and know they aren't going to win the game, they will quit. If the other team continues to play well it will be very lopsided. I'm not saying Miami is as good as previous years, but I expected more from them today.

:mj07: I was thinking the same thing. Matthew McConaughey, I mean Brandon, really missed the boat on this one.

They've been awful all season against top line teams...and medium teams too for that matter! :D

I know (as you said) the road is different all together, but they are are 2-12 on the road v. winning teams...1 win was @ Milwaukee without Simmons and Williams (And they had already lost there!), and the other @ Washington who shot 38% and are barely a good team anyway.

Home losses to Phoenix, SA, NJ, Dallas...sure, they beat up the crappy teams, but they don't seem to go with the stronger ones.

(PS. I hope I don't jinx anything, 'cause I'm on Detroit! :scared )

I've played a lot more college hoops than pros this year. Don't think I will bet on Miami again after this debacle. Thanks for the info too...

Miami actually won that game??? :mj07: I didn't even bother watching the 4th quarter. Wow. What a chokejob by the Pistons. Maybe I was questioning the wrong team's heart?
