I want to thank the true cappers on this site. I have watched from afar the whole W+W fiasco, and with it a lot of people saying that this site is going to hell in a handbasket, etc.
Speaking for myself, this site has improved my ability to handicap (by reading reasons for making plays by outstanding cappers like Clem, Box, gman, fletch, etc.) and to think critically about why I am making a play, or whether I want to make one at all.
I am probably one of the younger users of this site, I turned 21 in August. I have been wagering on sports since I turned 18, and this is the first year that I have had a profit, and also the first year that I have actively participated on this site... It is was it is... and for me that is almost exclusively good. I get to "steal" picks from people who are far better at this than I am, and use the information they provide to make myself much better at my favorite hobby.
And if you guys remember your college years... the extra spending money has come in handy. I haven't had to check prices at the grocery store or not go to a movie that I wanted to see in several months... I owe all of the above to most of you guys, and I appreciate it.
Sorry for rambling... wanted to say this in my own thread and not get involved in the mud slinging that was going on in other threads (no, I am not above it... just don't want to get banned... just kidding...)
Onto todays picks:
Missouri +3.5 (TAMU)
--- Honestly, this line suprised the hell out of me. Let me give you two records: Mizzou is 10-4 at home. TAMU is 2-5 on the road. TAMU just squeaked out a road win at mighty Baylor. I think Mizzou is more talented, have a sizeable homecourt edge, and should play with some heart after getting embarrased on national TV by KU last weekend.... a game which only served to make MU a great value play... The only intangible here is if Mizzou has sent it in and won't show up. I say no. A guy like Thomas Gardner isn't going to quit playing in his last few games as a college athlete. I also like the way that Watkins handled being spanked last weekend... there was no way that MU was going to hang in that game, revenge against the arch-rival who is white-hot, and I think Watkins knew that and kept his composure pretty well and kept teaching on the sidelines... I hope he gets another coaching op. after this season, with a mid-major if nothing else. I like this play a lot, and will be putting two units on it.
Baylor +23 (@KU)
--- Too many points. Baylor battles all game long and is well coached. Meanwhile, KU is laying a HUGE number because they have been playing well against decent-mediocre teams. Baylor is by no means good, but KU will have to play very well to win by more than 23.
As an aside, Bill Self has periodically put the teams worst players on the court throughout games that he knows will end up in blowouts. For instance, Jack-'Em-Up Jeremy Case has been getting decent amount of PT over the last couple of weeks, even though he does nothing on the court well, except for miss three pointers. I think this is because Case is among the most popular players on the team, and was convinced by Self to take a red-shirt last year for the betterment of the future of the team, and is now being rewarded for that. Also, I expect to see Stephen Vinson get some minutes in this one as well if KU starts out quickly.
This is getting wordy, so here is the translation: if KU jumps to an early lead, 'scrub-type' players, who would not start for Baylor, will play major minutes for KU. If Baylor plays competitively in the first half, they will probably cover the huge number. In essence, either scenario looks promising.
Forgive my novel-length post, I am working my graveyard shift at a hotel in Lawrence... needless to say I don't have much to do.
I might have a play on the total of the MU-TAMU game, want to look at it more this afternoon.
GL today everyone.
