Updated record:

Other conferances: 7-4 (+1.3 units)--- All half a unit.

Total last 38 posts: 25-12-1

I want to thank the true cappers on this site. I have watched from afar the whole W+W fiasco, and with it a lot of people saying that this site is going to hell in a handbasket, etc.
Speaking for myself, this site has improved my ability to handicap (by reading reasons for making plays by outstanding cappers like Clem, Box, gman, fletch, etc.) and to think critically about why I am making a play, or whether I want to make one at all.
I am probably one of the younger users of this site, I turned 21 in August. I have been wagering on sports since I turned 18, and this is the first year that I have had a profit, and also the first year that I have actively participated on this site... It is was it is... and for me that is almost exclusively good. I get to "steal" picks from people who are far better at this than I am, and use the information they provide to make myself much better at my favorite hobby.
And if you guys remember your college years... the extra spending money has come in handy. I haven't had to check prices at the grocery store or not go to a movie that I wanted to see in several months... I owe all of the above to most of you guys, and I appreciate it.
Sorry for rambling... wanted to say this in my own thread and not get involved in the mud slinging that was going on in other threads (no, I am not above it... just don't want to get banned... just kidding...)

Onto todays picks:

Missouri +3.5 (TAMU)
--- Honestly, this line suprised the hell out of me. Let me give you two records: Mizzou is 10-4 at home. TAMU is 2-5 on the road. TAMU just squeaked out a road win at mighty Baylor. I think Mizzou is more talented, have a sizeable homecourt edge, and should play with some heart after getting embarrased on national TV by KU last weekend.... a game which only served to make MU a great value play... The only intangible here is if Mizzou has sent it in and won't show up. I say no. A guy like Thomas Gardner isn't going to quit playing in his last few games as a college athlete. I also like the way that Watkins handled being spanked last weekend... there was no way that MU was going to hang in that game, revenge against the arch-rival who is white-hot, and I think Watkins knew that and kept his composure pretty well and kept teaching on the sidelines... I hope he gets another coaching op. after this season, with a mid-major if nothing else. I like this play a lot, and will be putting two units on it.

Baylor +23 (@KU)
--- Too many points. Baylor battles all game long and is well coached. Meanwhile, KU is laying a HUGE number because they have been playing well against decent-mediocre teams. Baylor is by no means good, but KU will have to play very well to win by more than 23.
As an aside, Bill Self has periodically put the teams worst players on the court throughout games that he knows will end up in blowouts. For instance, Jack-'Em-Up Jeremy Case has been getting decent amount of PT over the last couple of weeks, even though he does nothing on the court well, except for miss three pointers. I think this is because Case is among the most popular players on the team, and was convinced by Self to take a red-shirt last year for the betterment of the future of the team, and is now being rewarded for that. Also, I expect to see Stephen Vinson get some minutes in this one as well if KU starts out quickly.
This is getting wordy, so here is the translation: if KU jumps to an early lead, 'scrub-type' players, who would not start for Baylor, will play major minutes for KU. If Baylor plays competitively in the first half, they will probably cover the huge number. In essence, either scenario looks promising.

Forgive my novel-length post, I am working my graveyard shift at a hotel in Lawrence... needless to say I don't have much to do.

I might have a play on the total of the MU-TAMU game, want to look at it more this afternoon.

GL today everyone.

Thomas Gardner is a junior. As far as I know, he will play his senior season, somewhere. Some of the players have said they haven't decided if they are staying after Synders departure. Players really liked him, even though he sucked as a coach.
Personally, I wouldn't touch this team because you never know what your going to get. Best of luck on your play. GL

Ranstl-

Had heard he wanted to turn pro after this season (huge mistake in my opinion) after Quin was forced out. You think he will stick around?

I disagree with your assesment about never knowing what you are going to get... at home you are usually going to get a winner, on the road, they are generally going to get killed (1-8 away from home, I think).

Thanks for your opinion, though... hope you are wrong about Mizzou (sounds like you think TAMU will cover).

GL tonight.

I know Synder talked to all his players before he left. He was close with Gardner and he said quinn was a big part of his turnaround this year. I have to believe Quinn would have told him he is not ready for NBA. I think anyone would tell him that. But you never know.
I'm not saying I think A&M will cover But the Tigers are a team with 1 win since mid January. And that came right after Quinns resignation. This is the same time that lost at home to Sam Houston St. All I'm saying is my money will not go on this team to win. At least not the rest of this year. I guess losses such as Sam Hou and lossing by 26 to Baylor, even on the road, tell alot about the heart of these misfits.
Hey, they could very well win tonight and to be honest, I hope they do. Good luck jayhawk.

Ranstl...What do you think about jayhawks comment about the Tigers just packing it in? I think this could very well be the case.

This basketball program is in turmoil. They are starting an indepependent investigation into how Synders resignation was handled. The AD Mike Alden sent Gary Link, one of the radio announcers and alum to feel out Synder and let him know he would not be back next year. Synder mentioned that in his news conference, saying that he was told the AD, president and Chancellor all were aware they would not bring Synder back next year. Thus he resigned. The AD Alden is catching alot of heat for using Link as his hatchet man.
Cizzy as for you question, I believe this team packs it in alot. They did it to Synder often and they liked him. Its a sad situation in Columbia and everyone involved are just praying for this season to end.

Watkins is just 2 yrs removed from being the head coach at TAMU for 6 yrs. Not sure they win or even cover but I gotta think coach Watkins has them playin hard all nite against his former school. gl with the pick. :mj06:

Rantsl... Thanks for the info... Always appreciate it when I can get some info much closer to the source then I am...

I still really like the pick, regardless for all of those reasons I stated.

JCB... I agree with you... And it won't hurt that he recruited and knows the games of some of the key players for TAMU, either. He also turned around the Charlotte program... he is a solid coach.

Actually another interesting angle.....

it would appear AM coach is a leading candidate for the Mizzou job and probably wants it.

ST... I had heard that Mizzou wanted to make a "statement" hire and go after someone like Calipari (whose wife is from Missouri)... failing that, hire a big time mid-major coach like Mike Anderson or the guy from Northern Iowa (McDermott?).

I definately think Watkins would be a good hire if they can't get Calipari, though... Mike Davis would be an interesting candidate as well...

I am about to head out for evening classes... The line has moved, as expected, in the KU game... I'll bite with another 1/2 unit.

Baylor +23.5 (@KU)

Sun Tzu, I know Watkins wants the job, But I would truly be surprised if it goes to him. Many alums want Alden the ADs head now. I have to think they will bring someone from the outside in to be the next coach. If Alden gets the axe they will probably clean house and look for someone with solid and clean background.
Many people are already saying Jon Sunvold should be new AD.
Who knows. Program is a complete joke and many heavy contributors are embarrassed at the whole situation.

Too many points??

Baylor on the road has lost by 33 @CU, 18 @TT, 28 @OU, 27 @Tx. They even lost at Neb by 15 after leading at the half by 7.

This is the reason KU is laying a big number.

Baylor does jack up the 3's and could get a backdoor cover because of that, but BU has NO low post game at all.
Center is a project who will struggle tonite and PF Swanson is not an aggresive down low guy.More of a 10 foot shooter.

Good Luck to you,but all pointers say the play is KU(-23). Best play may be the 2ndH play depending on the half score.

Thor,

I have been doing fairly well in the Big 12 as well and actually like Texas A&M -2 (-120)... huge game for Aggies and what is Misery playing for?

Kansas -23... I know lookahead, blah-blah-blah. However KU is 8-1 ATS their last 9 and I see NO resason to get off the winning track against a Baylor team they could destroy.

Nice commentary Ranstl. I agree with everything you said. Tough being a Tiger fan right now. Good Luck with your play Thor, but that intangible you mentioned in your first post is the reason I am laying off that appetizing line. After the way they played in Lawrence on Saturday, there is no way I am puttih my money on them tonight. I'm still pissed I didn't unload on the Jayhawks on Saturday. I truly hope you cash your ticket.

I was referring to Gillespie, not Watkins.
