Yao is an overrated BIG man. He has no drop step move. His foot work his horrible. He doesn't take an aggressive move to the basket, he lays back and shoots a 9 ft jumper which makes him a 6'8 player instead of a 7'7 player. Dunk w/ authority and make a gesture and throw an elbow or two.....be aggressive. This guy doesn't know how to post up on the block as he gets pushed off the block and ends up 14 ft from the basket which again translates into making him a 6'9 player. Houston is horrible but Yao is soooo overrated.

Overrated by the fact he has so much more potential, but numbers dont lie. He avg 10 rebounds a game and 20.4 points. Not many centers even come close to his stats. Yea he looks like an ass and needs to get more agressive, but he is still learning. Watch his rookie year and this year. Like night and day.

Ive heard alot of people say he needs to gain weight. The guy weighs 310lbs. He is just 6'7" so its hard to keep weight on. Shaq only weighs 15 more pounds than him.

In looking at active NBA centers, only Jermaine O'Neal is scoring more points per game this season (O'Neal - 20.9 ppg, Yao - 20.4 ppg).

BTW, Yao is 7'-6", not 6'-7".

Jermaine won't qualify if he's done for the year and he "technically" can be counted as a Center, but he is really the PF, they play him with Pollard, Harrison, and Foster (when healthy)..

Yao is starting to regress tho, I wouldnt call his rookie year and this year night and day, because both are only showing flashes of what he can do.. he took a big step after his rookie year but I just dont see him asserting himself... how in the hell can he not grab a single rebound in that game against Phoenix before the All Star Break.

Phoenix broke the code on how to defend Houston and Yao last game out...they doubled down EVERY time he touched the ball and he looked absolutely lost...

If i remember correctly, tmac was in a huge slump or wasnt playing. So they doubled yao every time. I think the suns also shot an amazing fg% that game.

Tmac was out and they covered Yao with Diaw giving up almost a foot in height and made it look easy and had Yao lookin very lost. I watched that whole game and really blamed Van Gundy for never making any adjustment on it all game.

Yao's game is different than all other centers around cause he doesn't have the mobility of the others he matches up with. But he always has the height which is his real only advantage, that and his somewhat soft touch. I may be way off but that is just how I see it.
