for all my friends on here that might be curious, we almost became first team in State history (larger classifications) to win 3 straight state titles ...

we werent picked as a fave this year but battled thru 2 loser out games in districts, one extremely tight game vs top foe, and then won three straight in state vs higher ranked teams, including 25-0 #1 ranked team (which we beat 63-40) but in the final 7' Spencer Hawes's team proved too much and tho we had 2 tying shots late, we had hit the wall and lost in finale ..

i told the kids afterward that coming in 2nd is sometimes more remarkable than winning it all as they bawled their eyes out--thats the hard thing as a coach or parent, not being able to fix that pain ..

juxtaposed with two of our coaches suffering deaths in their family (a father and wife) during the year and two of my good pals having tragedy strike them, it was a year of many thanks in other ways and spiritual awakening to not only myself but i think our entire team...

Life is a long strange trip as Garcia said ...

thanx for all the support many of you have given me thru the years ...

take care,
gregg

Congrats! Was just thinking about you today, was hoping it was because of your basketball commitments.

thanx Mav,

some nice news in our State 4A finals was that one of my school's X-coaches and 2 of my X PGs (now coaches at Franklin) who played on 2 state champs for me (roosevelt high and Odea) helped lead Franklin High of Seattle to their own crown last night ... They beat Curtis of Tacoma in game of tourney in semis after trailing by 22, Isaiah Thomas, 5'9 jr. lefty, of Tacoma's Curtis HS tossed in 51 (he's already broken the all time state record for a career in tourney) he also had 41 in another game ... Franklin has some great guards, Venoy Overton is a junior and hit for 21 in their 19 pt. win finale ... their real player is Peyton Siva, a frosh 6' guard--he might be the best frosh guard Ive ever seen in this state ...

as for oregon's top class finale, Lake Oswego beat South Medford by 2, Love over Singler, 2 of the top 5 juniors in the nation

Coach Pt gd..Greg...the job you do must be amazing out there on the "left coast'.I wish I could see your teams play.Winning the state title twice and a shot or two from a 3rd.What a great reflection on you as a coach and teacher of the game.Next week I leave on my annual trip to Glen Falls,NY for the state championships.Last yr I missed it for the 1st time in 18 yrs.The past 8 as a ex-coach with all my fellow coaches.
Like I told you before...I lost the state championship 3 times.Damn..you won 2 and almost a 3rd.My nickname among my friends was " the Bud Grant of HS basketball". Or Alyidar who came in 2nd to Affirmed 3 times in Derby,Belmont, etc.
But Cervantes once wrote "the journey is better than the inn"The greatest satisfaction in life is preparing for that journey, day after day, week after week, year after year. But the journey is the important thing. The score,a trophy, championship,is simply the inn".Preparing for the games and contests is the satisfaction"...But the journey is the real prize and you have Greg as a coach have such a great journey these past few yrs
Congraduations Greg.Send me some articles on some of those games or tell me where I can find them on the net.
