Getting ready to head out to Mazatlan tomorrow morning (have to get up at 3:30 A.M., ugh...). Hopefully I will be able to steal some time to watch some of these games, and maybe get on and cap the second or third round games. Will probably end up spending the week in a drunk stupor, however :scared
Updated record: (1 unit= $100)
Through 3-8-06
Big 12: 27-15-2 (+$1,575)
Other conferances: 11-7 (-$84)
Total: 38-22-2 (+$1,491)
Update from last time: Went 0-3. Still feel shafted by Mizzou's idiot forward who missed the front end of a 1-and-1 for the cover. Oh well. At least Kentucky showed up and gave Florida hell! :mj07:
Onto the picks:
Kansas St. -2.5 (TT), -103, 206/200
--- Texas Tech clocked KSU by 14 in February. What has changed? For one, this game won't be played in Lubbock, and two, this K. St. team finally appears to be gelling (last game against KU aside).
While Texas Tech has been putrid on the road this year, KSU is actually respectable ATS, with a 6-4 mark.
TT is playing for nothing, except the right to get their ass's kicked in the second round. KSU isn't playing for much more, but a win against TT will punch their ticket into a probable home-court first round game in the NIT, which for this squad is actually something to go after... and more so for Woolridge, whose job security is in question.
Baylor +8 (CU), +106, 250/265
--- Baylor is a cash cow. Honestly. They are 7-3 ATS in their last 10 games, and Sun Tzu and I have been padding our wallets with these lovable losers over the past month and a half.
This pick was too easy for me. Unless they move this one back to Boulder, I love this one.
Colorado is a fringe-NCAA tournament team, supposedly, which cracks me up everytime I see one of ESPN's experts talking about it. This team? Really? They are awesome in the altitude when their oppositions lungs are burning for 40 minutes. When they step outside those cosey confines, they are atrocious. So now we are going to give them a bid to the tournament and let them play on a neutral court? Let me say this right now: if the Buffs make the tournament, my GOY will probably take place. The house that I don't own will be on whoever they are playing.
Enough of the rant. I say this everytime I bet on Baylor, but they are surprisingly talented, are well coached, and play hard the entire game (probably because of an inferiority complex). They are weak inside, but they have very good guard play, and will give Colorado a run for their money. I would not be surprised in the least to see BU win this outright, or at least make Roby go off down the stretch to stave them off.
Iowa St. -1 (OSU), +108, 150/162
--- As the line suggests, this game is a crap-shoot.
Their are two obvious things going in each teams favor heading into this game: the Pokes are finally playing up to their potential at the end of the season, and the Cyclones play better on the road.
I will go with the team that mysteriously frequently played like dog crap at home, and played well on the road. ISU ended 6-3 ATS on the road this year.
Boggan will have to have a big game for OSU to knock off the 'Clones in this one.
Stinson and Blalock gun ISU to the win in this one.
Nebraska -4 (MU), -102, 102/100
---
Who knows? Mizzou is playing for nothing, and Collier will try desperately in the locker room to convince his guys that a first round win and a second round upset will catapult the Huskers into the dance and save his job.
I do know this: Mizzou has more talent than Nebraska, and if they decide they want to play, they will win this outright. However, they are 13-15 this year, and their season is over. Will they decide to duke it out with a tough Nebraska team for the right to get creamed the next day in round 2, and have their season end there? Obliviously, I am putting my money on the answer to that question being "no."
These teams split their regular season, with Mizzou winning by 1 at home, and Nebraska winning by 13 at home. Some people will think this game is a slam dunk on NU, I just don't see it that way.... Nebraska will probably be a big public play, and that almost convinced me to take a pass on this one. The line seems low. I will toss a unit on it, though.
Hope this helps some people. Been struggling the past week or so, here's to hoping that stops now. :sadwave:
Best of luck this week, guys. :SIB
