It was December 1993, I was in the Pier marquess Hotel in Acapulco. Bonds was going to SF for his first season, he was a very good player but did not have the fame that now has. So I was with my parents and a group of may parents friends at the pool and suddenly Bonds appears with his not so huge body by that time but huge enough with his classical earing etc.... Nobody but me knew who that guy was, as a baseball fan in mexico is very rare to have the chance to get to see a player like him in mexico, I ask everybody on the group if they knew who he was and nobody could told me.
So I followed him to the bar, and grab a piece of paper to ask him if he could give me his autograph.
So as nervous as I remember that I was, I went to his table and ask him ( Excuse me, could you give me your autograph) his answer was this.
NO, I DO NOT THINK THAT IS A GOOD IDEA, I DO NOT WANT TO BE DISTURB , THEN HE SAW MY FACE REACTION AND THEN FINALLY SIGN ME THE PIECE OF PAPER, BUT TOLD ME NOT TO TELL ANYBODY ELSE.
What I am trying to tell you is that at that time of his carreer someone in mexico, not an american a mexican my self, recognized him. Instead of feeling good about it, he was a selfish, egocentric, bla bla bla person.
Imagine now if you have the chance to see him on the street or whatever, He is going to tell you that is no way he is going to sign you anything his hand may get injured....
I hope he never breaks Babe's Record nor Aarons,
Jimmy
