Colleges get money when a conference does well correct??
Wouldnt it benefit ALL the schools if the conference gets alot of bids???
Then bubble teams will be aided by teams already in the tourney if the non bubble teams lost and the bubble teams made a big run in the meaningless conference tournaments
For example wouldnt all of the Big East benefit from Syracuse making the tourny?? (Hence Uconn, whos already a 1 seed lock losing to Cuse)
Wouldnt the A 10 benefit from any other team making the automatic bid if GW lost (they did)
Wouldnt the SEC benefit from a bubble team like Kentuckey making a run (Bama is already locked in)???
Take a look at games today and tomorrow which bubble teams win and locked in teams lose....
Any thoughts??
(Maybe Duke , UNC Bama might be good fades tomorrow...)

I only thought they got money in football when teams go to bowls. I think the NCAA tourney has nothing to do w/ giving money to schools.

Hokie:

I mentioned that to one of buddies at work today. The conferences are a business. The goal of a business is to make money. I don't actually believe that these games are fixed, but the conferences benefit from each team selected. Uconn layed down for the cuse today.

i think the theory is missing the fact that every team you mentioned winning NEEDS to win to make the tourney. The teams that loss didn't really lose anything.
I watched Syracuse yesterday and today. They played like they had to win to make the tourney. Cincy yesterday and Uconn today came otu like they knew they had made the tourney.
And remember, if there was a fix, it came down to Gmac hittin and NBA 3 just to send it to OT, and Uconn missin a jumper from the free throw line. Thats not a good fix.
As Far as GW, seems like a lot of close games lately, and missing a key player.
And i think KY beats ALA tomorrow, just think KY is playing better now, and i'm a bama student. I just think certain teams are putting it together now and are playing with a sense of desperation

This is bad
This is my point
Uconn doesnt need to win and Voila Syracuse wins
I am not saying its fixed but I am sure Uconn wins doubley by the loss, more money for cuse making the tourny and the are not tired going into the REAL tournament
As for GW triplely, The get to rest more money cause another A ten makes the tourny the whole conference benefits with more exposure...
Just watch the big conferences as some "surprises" shake out in the next couple of days..
Plus better seeds for the teams that win the conference in the real dance with strong runs in the conference tournys (Ohio st, Tennessee)

Schools/conferences do not conspire together to throw games! This is one of the most far fetched dreams I have heard...it would never stay a secret and too many people would be involved for it to stay one. Thisisbad put it nicely by stating good reasons why, not just taking the easy road out and saying it must be fixed!

Hokie, I have thought the same thing. Even thought it when UConn was down big yesterday.
But, its so hard to know who would do what to let who win, etc.
I don't think the game was fixed, at least not fixed very good. McNamara had to hit a 25-footer to force OT.
But you never know if a ref could get paid or a certain player, etc.

I do tend to think about stuff like that. Seems like there is always something else going on besides what is being shown.

I went to an arena football game last night. It was actually a league below arena2. Something happened and my first thought was something on conspiracy. Then I remembered that there are not even any lines for this sport.

Sometimes I over-think stuff like that, but at the same time, sports have gotten so dirty, and we all know that what happens in sports is a good indicator of what happens in society. It has always mirrored society.

Mr Chiappia
I dont think the teams are throwing or fixing games
But I do think they are focused on the bigger picture
These coaches know one another
They know the dollars that are at stake
What did Uconn lose by losing yesterday probobly Nothing
Still a 1 seed more rest for guys after a long season
What did the Conference gain..... another check for making the dance with syracuse...
Ask the BC football team if conferences dont conspire
Why else did they get shipped to Boise for the blue field bowl
I dont think its fixed but I do think there is a wink wink nudge nudge kinda like when a football head coach tells alumni I REALLY think we will slaughter Podunk state by at least 5 tds, and the alumni gets down big on a 27 point spread Bowden is notorious for this so was Supperior

I know this maybe a little late but can we list teams that are playing today that are on the bubble against a team that is for sure in? I dont think Hokie is saying these games are fixed but possibly a betting angle to look at.

It starts before the tourn. In the last couple of weeks the bubble teams will have every chance to win their games against teams already in. They still have to win the game. In the tourn, remember that a bubble team is a good team that has had a few bad breaks during the year. On a given day they might beat anyone and they are usually playing a team in the first round that has beaten them and is not as serious as they should be. The refs will give them the chance to win, the rest is up to them. Makes for a lot of upsets in these tourns.
