when he was at kent state, winning with guys who knew how to play basketball and actually got BETTER in the final minutes of games. now, for about the third straight year at arkansas, his collection of athletes underachieve yet again and get bounced by bucknell. felt before the tourney that arkansas would either beat memphis ... or lose to bucknell. but watching the hogs score stumble and get bounced was still quite surprising. that seat that has temporarily cooled of for stan is back to being red hot and he could be looking for work at this time next year with another one of these games in march.

actually they probably overachieved even getting to the tournament and getting seedd that high......the program was in very bad shape when he got there.....I think he should have done more faster, but not sure I agree with you about this year in that vacuum..my high and might hog alum friends claim Satn has no worries.....and it is going to take alot for them to fire another balck coach....

hawkeye-
i really feel one of the underdogs is going to win outright tonight in the palace. whether its bradley or kent state remains to be seen. just see a lot of similarities in this team compared with the 2002 kent team. as for butler, i think they are a live dog capable of hanging around. as with all butler games, rebounding is so key for them. fsu isnt a dominating rebounding team per se, but butler is going to have trouble matching up with thornton. under might be worth a look. fsu hasn't seen a team as disciplined as butler all season.

i certainly cant say that im privy to the same info you are in terms of heath's job security. heading into the season, i know it was shaky. but their wins over florida-tennessee-bama to close the regular season likely did enough to get him at least one more year. i think the guy is a good coach but i dont agree that arkansas overachieved. when you have arguably the best player in the sec on your team along with some other solid pieces, they shouldnt have been even remotely close to the bubble like they were a month ago. a lot of people around here feel heath made his name off of gary waters recruits before waters left for rutgers.

pt1gard:

you would be correct. their 3 main pieces (shaw, mitchell, huffman) were all seniors and then they also had a young antonio gates. their leadership was phenomenal though. any time a game was close in the final minutes you felt like they were the ones with the advantage. the mac hasnt seen a team like them since and probably wont for a long time

I thought playing in Dallas would have been more of a home court advantage for the Hogs. I remember in the old days they'd make Reunion Arena totally rock.
