i presently drive the volvo suv & like it very much....i also had the nissan pathfinder (don't know if they still make it) & liked that also, but not as much as the volvo....

www.edmunds.com is a very good site that rates new & used cars & suvs...i always check it before i get a new vehicle....

good luck.

I have the lexus suv.. and i must say i will probably be a lexus buyer for the rest of my life..

i am in orthopedic sales so i basically drive for a living... i have put 98,000 miles on my lexus and am yet to have a single problem. Its a comfy smooth ride, the gas mileage is good (for an SUV) and they run forever with no problems.

check out the R X 300

And for almost the same thing but at a lower cost, look at the Toyota Highlander. It's a little roomier, also.

I've been debating b/w the lexus or the X5. I think the thing that wins it for me is just what you said...reliability. My family has been toyota owners as long as I can remember and they run great. How does the R X (why if I connect those 2 letters does it make **) drive? I am going to get one probably at the end of the summer.

the lexus looks great, but check out the mdx before buying. the mdx has very comfortable 3rd row seating. if the 3rd row is not important - buy a honda pilot or a 4runner, easily 10k cheaper.

Wife just took home an Infinit FX35 yesterday, first SUV I've driven that I actually liked to drive, felt more like a sports car than SUV. Maybe a little less storage room than a Tahoe or Suburban type, but makes up for it in the option goodies.

What not to buy!

What not to buy!

Honda Passport. They're so shitty, they don't even make them anymore. Lucky for consumers.

Yeah...Yeah...Yeah... I know. The Honda Passport is an Isuzu Rodeo in disguise for 2K higher. My dumb-ass self didn't do the research.

So maverick, research before you buy.

I drive the Infiniti FX35. Two years and still love it. Not roomy enough for an SUV, though, drives like a sports car. 280 hp for the 3.5 engine and 315 hp for the 4.5 (10 grand more though).

The wife had a BMW X5 3.0 for 4 years (would've preffered the 4.4) but after seeing the Infiniti's and test driving she traded in for an Infiniti QX56. Now that's a friggin' bus. 320 hp and guzzles like an alcoholic. Very smooth. The beamer had great resale value, though. Very important. I just hope they've upgraded those engines (putt - putt).

So any Infiniti is good. It's Nissan, so pretty good on the reliability.

Had the Explorer previously and nice but drives like a truck. Newer models could be better.

I bought a new Mercury Mountaineer in 2002.

Kinda Truck-like but very roomy. Worth a look-see and it has great gas mileage for its type.

It's just a nicer Ford Explorer, but it's a nicer Ford Explorer.

I have been very happy with it.
