I lay off the first round games of this tournament and track ATS and total performances the first weekend.I always do really well this way, combining it with a score forecast. The play that stands out first and foremost is Villanova-2 vs BC on Friday.Texas-5- vs WVU also looks very strong,I am playing them and Ucla -4 on Thursday. Good Luck, but you won't need it especially with Nova.

love nova

bc is one of the few teams that can make nova pay for going small......wont matter as bc's guards stink

nova is the first team in a while that reminds me of the 97-98 arizona wildcats (still take the guards arizona has) and think they make the final four

their shooting today was awesome and even though they are small, they are a good rebounding team

The one matchup I've been waiting the entire tourney for, and PRAYING that it would actually take place, is Villanova vs. BC. Why? Because BC doesn't any play perimeter defense and Nova is a team with great guards who can really shoot. BC did well on the big stage in the Big East tourney and now they've won their first 2 games of the "real" tourney. Maybe I'm wrong, but I think a lot of people are giving them too much credit and sleeping on Nova. I think Nova wins by at least 8. I also like the UCLA pick. Gonzaga finally has to play a real opponent. They won't like the results. Good luck...

I going to have to break down these games a little better, as
I gave back some profit today, especially with OSU. Initially I
lean to Nova, but don't know yet with UCLA/Zags.

I like BC, sorry guys. I do agree, however, that the Zags will be hit with reality reaeeeaaaaaaaallly hard.

...Oh & Texas is overrated.

BC has covered both games so far in the tourney,Villanova covered neither of the first two.Add BC's streak thru the ACC tourney and they are due for a not so sharp game, really due.'Nova will play their best game tourney to date, they will explode.Take it to the bank.

edludes, how can nova not play their best game of the tourney so far. they've looked pretty average the first two games. all they have to do is play somewhat well and they'll play their best game of the tourney.if they play a decent team yesterday they get eliminated. betting that teams are due to play bad doesn't work too well. good luck though, should be a great game, think i'm gonna stay clear of this one. like ucla out of all the games.

BC's front line will dominate the glass. Not sure Nova likes a physical type of game, which is what they are going to get. Nova's guards are great but if Skinner was smart he would start Rice to offset Novas guard play. Should be a great game. Still undecided.

HoopsGuru, dont let your dislike for nova get in the way of capping. nova shot 54% from field, 47% from arc, 85% from line. hardly average numbers. arizona, while underachieving this year, played an excellent game. what decent team would have eliminated nova yesterday? your way off base here, and you know it.

Hey Napoleon, I mean Glenn, someone forgot to tell you that BC is in the ACC now. :mj07:

FWIW, I like BC . . . .
BC IS on a roll. NOVA will have to make their outside shots because they won't get 2nd chances. BC will dominate the boards. I think this game is a no brainer. BC wins outright. . . IMHO.

I'm in a couple pools that have you to pick the games each weekend. I'm struggling with FL/GT. Any insight would be appreciated. Are both these teams for real? How do the matchups look in this one? GT seemed to impress versus Ohio State, but again, that was the Big Ten and they laid another egg this dance.

Hoops Guru-In an effort to not hype the game, perhaps I understated things:How I really feel about this game is that they are going to make your eyes pop out of their sockets they play so well vs BC.The reason is exactly the mediocre effort they expended this past weekend in advancing.Experience tells me that a very good team advancing in this manner in this tourney is saving up a major focused performance for the second weekend.IF one of the teams that hasn't covered and yet still advances (uConn and Villanova)does it a third time in the first game this week,I would look at them as the favorite to win it all but Uconns opponent Uwash might not scare them enough that they could conceivably walk that tight rope again of not covering and still winning. But for the other winless ats team that made it to the sweet 16,Villanova,the quality of BC tells me the breakout game is coming now,Thursday. The quality of the opponent, the low number, the public perception that one team is hot and the other could have been beaten by a "decent"team last weekend,it all adds up to Villanova covering. The numbers I use are what I call the opening lines for team and total, not the ones distorted by betting action. If you track each teams ATS performance and over/under performance during the tournament and compare it to their opponents performance in these areas, you sometimes get an edge as to who is overdue for a cover or noncover,or which way the pace will go scoring wise.Last year North Carolina went into the semi-final weekend covering once in their first four tournament games to get that far.I posted them as the winner on the Tuesday before the finals in great part because of this coupled with the awesome talent they had last year.It told me that that awesome talent was very likely going to play above expectations both games that finals weekend.(Forget about using this system with defending champions or hot teams from last year, just bet against them if at all as with all public teams.)Some MJ notables such as Dr Freeze (tehee) have ridiculed this as gibberish, but no one who has tried it for a tourney or two and knows anything about gambling could doubt that it helps give an edge in certain, not all situations.

good luck on your plays guys, but i must say, if nova looks so solid, why is the line only @ 2? i have to agree with just about everyones post in re: to nova and there guards, but if you really think vegas will set this game up as an easy win for nova, i'd think again, maybe if it was around 3-4 points? but 2? comeon, im waiting till gameday to make a decision on this one, if i even play it, but gl

It is this low to foster the perception that the game will be this close in an effort to induce equal action on both sides. The game might not be this close,it wouldn't surprise me.If this game ends up as a comfortable Villanova win,you won't have to scatch your head with your New England friends wondering why.GL to you too!

edludes --

Good post. I heard an interesting discussion on talk radio today where one analyst broke down the NCAA tourney as three mini-tournaments. For a high seed to go back to school today as a winner means 3 days full of distractions (tons of press coverage, parties etc.) Makes it very difficult for the coach to get them hungry for the next game...Duke and Gonzaga etc are used to this type of thing but it will be new for the mid-major teams like Wichita State...

In terms of UConn, there's no question that they play up to the level of their competition. With 4 minutes left in that game vs. Albany they just shifted it into a higher gear...the Huskies will go down when they get too far behind against a good team...
