gonzaga choked........thats what happens when you play nobody for 3 months and suddenly find yourself in a dogfight.

i was joking about that

but the fact remains he was in no position to get the ball in a scoring position......running back towards the ball......75-80 feet from his basket....at best he gets the ball and heaves a 65 foot prayer

just dont think he was in the right frame of mind, you think he was showing that he cared and was a winner.

Usually respect your opinion...

But those weren't dog fights. Those were a far superior team whose disinterest made it necesary to stave off a far inferior team in the end.

gman2: you are correct, all top caliber squads. my bad.

the caliber of squads has nothig to do with your argument. you said they hadn't been involved in close games for over 3 months.

and thats simply not true.

close games are close games.

you guys are missing the whole point. im not arguing that those are good teams. im simply refuting the point that gonzaga hasnt been involved in close games for 3 months. it wasnt like they cruised through the wcc and then had no clue how to handle late game situations. the caliber of opponent has nothing to do with late game execution and experience

Morrison went scoreless from the field the last 7 minutes. That's incredible! Reddick was totally frustrated all night. And these are the players touted as "all world" players of the year in college basketball???

Okay, I gotta admit, Morrison is my first choice in a pick-up game at the local gym, but man did he choke at the end?

I respect your point, gman, but I have no racial axe to grind here. The scorecard does not have a box marked "race" on it. The game speaks for itself.

FWIW, I agree with gjn23 and Sun Tzu in their analysis.

and no doubt they don't control the league they are in and they do play a good non-conference, just was making the point that when your opponent strength lags for 3 months its no surprise they run up against a good team and get them down 17, maybe they forget they are not playing san francisco this time.

rewatched the last few mins and it's even more shocking that gonzaga lost the second time around (and even more of a choke job than arizona vs ill last year)

ucla had no to's left in the last 3 mins
morrison forced a few horrible shots
batista had a horrible decision to put back one of morrisons misses with 1:20 left and a 5 pt lead
somebody (batista i think) threw the ball high on the full court press with about 1:30 left that gonz lost out of bounds
the non-continuation on collisions layup was a HORRIBLE call...yet gonzaga still couldnt overcome
the inbounds to morrison was a bad play all around....in the corner trapped by 4 defenders (2 bruins, sideline and baseline) and the coach.....then a cross court pass to batista who holds onto the ball instead of handing it off to ravio???
then batista holds the ball weakly for the turnover...then doesnt cover the basket and ucla gets a free layup
then ravio dribbles all the way up courts thru traffic and eventually loses control of the ball
then morrison crys
then the game continues and gonzaga gets a shot...but where was morrison???? batista could have passed to a cutter for a jumper as they had 2 seconds left

still amazed they blew that one

too bad gutty little zags

:)
