What happens when you make a business decision for the university and the basketball team by allowing a criminal to play for your team? You get the most talented team to squeak by a 16 seed and lose to an 11 seed. Too bad Mr. Williams. Jim Calhoun and the university president made a business decision to allow williams to play this year as they felt they would make more money with a good product. I think we all would agree that if any Joe College at the university had stolen laptops not only would you not be allowed to participate in any sports, but you would be kicked out of the university and prosecuted to the fullest extent. They needed him to play point, he made an apolgy and they lost the repsect of many a college fan. Karma caught up with them...too bad. I kinda wish they would have kept winning as they were easy money if you bet against them. Calhoun and Uconn got their just reward. I think Uconn fans and Billy Packer are they only people that feel bad for this team. Never mess with Karma!

Stealing laptops is a little more serious than punching a guy in a game. He got a suspension and served it during the most difficult part of the season, the tournament's 1st game, which the team made it through. You are absoultely correct in that any other Joe Student would have been expelled without a question. The University should be disgraced to have tolerated such behavior. Is that the kind of student they look for and admit? They pretty much set a precedent that stealing will not got you expelled from that school. Unbelieveable.

People in glass houses who throw stones and demean others build bad karma....
Made a mistake...and paid for it
So did Alan Iverson,Caron Butler and a host of other ballplayers

If he stole my laptop, he would miss more than a few games, because he would be walking with a limp. :box2: :mj15:

Conn as a team seemed Lifeless most of the year, even with the nice record, never seemed to get on a roll. Don't think letting Williams play had anything to do with the outcome. As far as letting a key player have a little extra rope, has been and will always be the the way it is. They just didn't seem to have the will to match the talent. What went wrong in E. Lansing ? Looked like they had a will to perform problem also.

Bryanz:

Your right with will to perform in E.L. as well. Izzo stated that he babied these guys a bit as he felt that was what this team needed. He listened to the local media and they were wrong. He will get back to killing these guys in practice and make them tough again. Problem is, they will be down next year. Very nice class coming in in '07 though.

Bear:
I appreciate your response but I don't see how he paid for his mistake. He missed the preconference, which doesn't mean much anyway. A non-athlete would have been kicked out, bottom line. The double standard here was evident. Didn't his buddy who was with him get suspended for the year? Also, my house is made of wood, not glass. I get the point, but I respectfully disagree.

Anyone remember Chris Washburn at NC State back in the mid-80's? I was pretty young then, but I'm pretty sure after he stole some stereos from a dorm room, he was allowed to come back and play. Not sure if he missed the rest of the season or what.

All I remember is the joke at the time... "Who has the most steals in the ACC? Answer, of course, Chris Washburn"

State fans love Valvano, but theres no telling what all went on during his time there. You never know what goes on anywhere, but in this case Washburn had something like a 450 SAT and played. Then stole stereos and played. I think he got carried away trying to live up to that lucky nat'l championship. Not all luck, but a lot.

Bake2252,

I don't know the facts of the case and my guess is that not too many who have condemned Marcus Williams do. Thats why they have courts etc. I believe it is so that ** had to burn his Accelerated Rehab as a result, as did AJ Price (who Calhoun has called the best player at CT this year)Thats paying the price. Next offense ...jail....plus the suspension...plus had to live off campus with parents etc???
Maybe, and I do not know, it was AJ who instigated or played a more primary role.............Who knows??? I don't ...and I GUARANTEE that there are those ON EVERY CAMPUS...who have legal issues and are NOT expelled!!!.........................
I do know that there are and have been for many years kids playing college ball who have had legal problems some well known..
My house, bake is made of wood as well......but there is a little glass also....and I'm not the JUDGE.
