Defrag the hard drives helps. I do this every few months and it improves speed. Go to start/programs/accessories/system tools/disk defrag. It takes a few hours so be ready to walk away from the machine when it's running. Chitch

I do the whole shebang every Friday at 8PM. Defrag-Scan-Clean + a complete Norton scan. Takes at most 30 minutes.
Also, right click "my computer" click on "properties" you'll see how much RAM is available. Less than 256, upgrade for about 40 bucks

You guys need Diskepper light. It's a free defragmentation system. Takes about a minute and you will see a message when it's time to defrag.
Over 2 million downloads.

Add more memory. If the machine is out of warranty add Edge or Goldram memory. If it is still in warranty add the memory made by your computer maker. This will avoid voiding the memory.

Do the other stuff the guys mentioned too. Also, the newer versions of some of the Instant Messangers have been bogging down machines.
