i would assume it is legal. but whoever the guy is he must be a fool. conveniece means financial help in my eyes. so why get married? if she needs help help and your willing to help then help her don't see were marriage needs to come into play.

People marry others for reasons much like this all the time.

A friend of mine is married to a woman basically to take care of his kids and keeps a perfect house. She stays at home while he brings home 2-4 dimes a week. Of course, this dog nails anything and everything that's not moving. In the next 5-6 years the kids will be out and about on their own. I don't know what these two will do with each other now that the reason for the marriage is taken away.

I would say at least 50% of marriages are of the convenience nature (they may not have started out that way). Of course the divorce rate is over 50% too so I guess you can blame that on marriage of inconvenience!!!

...more specifics would be required to answer your question.... Fraud comes to mind if both parties don't understand the "convenience" of the marriage. A marriage is generally construed under the law close to the way a contract is construed. Does that help?

:SIB

p.s. I hope that you're asking for the benefit of someone else...otherwise, you need to drop me an e-mail, sugar. ;)

Chad... here is a bit more help :D The job I am currently *hired for* as soon as they know they have an opening at the Moline airport (and pending results of physical and criminal background check) is only part time and fairly low paying.... but it has WONDERFUL fringe benefits. I have ZERO desire to be married in real life, but a guy that felt the same way wouldn't suck......LOL #1, if that ended up being the route to go, it would need to be someone with custody of their young children, like to travel, and have a job with health insurance coverage..... if you want to know more about what i'm wondering about, lets take it to e-mail.....LOL (but yes, a pre-nup would be a MUST, if only to protect myself) but i'd gladly exchange flight benefits for health insurance benefits with someone i never even had to see....LOL

...you should e-mail me in the morrow.

...and over night, while this is on your mind, instead of thinking of the "fringe" benefits, think back to div #1 and the b.s that went along with same. Let's weigh the "potential" positive vs. the "potential" negative here.... Then the answer to your question is like seeing the forest INSTEAD of the trees. ;)

p.s. Have you lost your mind? We'll talk.... :SIB

let me get this right you would marry someone for the benefit of health insurance? but you actually want no commitment to this man just the benefits of being married. Makes no sense to me but hey I'm single so what do I know lol.

LOL NTI, you pretty well summed it up. :D i have no desire to be in a contractual committed relationship (more like a *you do as YOU please, I do as I please) type of thing...... so if it would be something that would cost someone NOTHING more than they are already paying for *family* health insurance coverage, and they got minimal cost flights for themselves and their children, where would the harm be? ;) (keep in mind that by *married* , i also mean they don't even live within 2000 miles....LOL)

mmmmmmmm interesting. never thought of saying I DO and adding someone to your health insurance for frequent flyer miles. personally I think you will have problem getting health coverage with someone not living in the same area as you or home let alone 2,000 miles away. think your living in a wonder land on this idea. maybe i am wrong but seems to be stretching it.

surely there is someone out there you can have a serious relationship with isn't there?

wow mama,
this reminds me of a desperate housewife episode where one of the women married a guy (that is gay) so she could get his health insurance to have a surgery.
in my opinion, i may sound like something or other, but, i would much rather take care of myself than have to have someone else take care of insidental things. it would feel much better to know i did it myself than having to depend on a spouse that i don't even love. also, he may start to annoy the shit out of you.

not pickn on ya but i would assume this guys gets no sex in return also. if you find an idiot like this than more power to ya. i am sure there are some out there. but what happens if you or him meet someone later on. ohhhhhhh by the way I'm married. plus the complications involved getting a divorce etc. Maybe i am looking at things in whole but seems like a lot of what if's to me.

But like I said if you can find someone gullable for this then go for it. This has Dr. Phil written all over it lol.

i agree with you on the "much rather take care of myself* aspect, fine....... but unfortunately, along comes the opportunity of what i have considered a *dream job* for the last 10 years, and it is only offered as part time for right now.... pay is only $9 an hour to start, and if i have to pay for family health insurance out of that just to get the benefits for myself and my kids, it is barely worth it. (as in NO paycheck left) I am going to have the option of naming a * traveling companion* year by year since i'm not married... (must have something to do with gay rights....LOL) If i'm married, the spouse (and their children) becomes the traveling companion by default. doesn't mean i have to have a damn thing to do with them. and keep in mind i called this *convenience* ..... how can someone i don't live with annoy the shit out of me? ;) (wait, don't answer that, cuz it IS possible....LOL) i'm only looking at the possibility here of trading one benefit for another.

I can also see where NTI is coming from on the long distance factor tho, since most plans are HMO's now..... (although if neither party is able to move due to work, who is to say they aren't really *married*? )

NTI, agree with you here........always the possibility of one or the other meeting someone they would like to be involved with for real..... also a reason that a major pre-nup would have to be involved.

looking at that from both sides....

THEY meet someone they want to have an actual marriage to, and a divorce happens..... well, then i'd have to take out my own health insurance....LOL (which would override open season on benefits)......

I meet someone i would want to have an actual marriage to, (it would be someone that has health insurance benefits available....GUARANTEED) and they would lose their flight benefits.....

either way, it would mean a divorce and one party in the *convenience only* marriage would lose some benefits, but not their income or belongings.... :D
