ok, I'll take a stab here. I'm not going crazy since it's the first week of the season but betting against the hometown boys in certain spots has proven to be quite profitable the past couple of years. Guys like Jojihma and Lopez are going to be good additions for the M's but I still think their pitching leaves a lot to be desired. Which brings me to the main reason I'm going against the M's tonight. Three words... Gilbert Allen Meche. Ah yes, another one of those M's pitchers with great "potential" that we have heard about for the last, what, 59 years? Unfortunately for him he's never turned that potential and "live arm" into anything. To say his career hasn't exactly panned out in Seattle would be like saying things got just a tad toasty on the Hindenberg. The guy is just an absolute headcase. He's made more stops between Seattle and Tacoma than Amtrak. There's been A LOT of press here about this being a make-or-break year for Meche if he wants to stick with the team. He hasn't exactly responded well to pressure in the past...
Then throw in the fact that he suffered an oblique injury in ST and I think betting on the M's tonight is a shaky proposition. He is supposedly over the injury, but who knows. As for the A's, Loaiza isn't dazzling but I think he will pitch well enough to get the job done. And if the A's hitters are patient, which I think they will be, they can pick Meche apart. Until ol' Gil proves me wrong I'll probably being going against him quite a bit this year.
