Vegas Question

i know i'm in the right place to ask this.... me and some buddies are planning a trip for the last weekend of april. sounds like the flamingo is our primary choice for hotel. i've never stayed there, or even been in there, so was looking for some impressions. i've stayed at the trop (mandatory for your first visit), the luxor 3 times, and the monte carlo. how does the flamingo compare? what kind of crowd? how's the poker room? how's the pool? i'm primarily a blackjack player, but i'm assuming most places have adequate blackjack coverage. although i love playing at the luxor because they offer surrender, and i'm not sure how many other casinos do. any feedback will be appreciated.

also... i know it's 3 months away, but anybody gonna be out there that weekend?

I consider the Flamingo a more 'working class America' place. Older and not as polished off as say a typical tourist strip hotel like Monte Carlo or Luxor. We're not talking Boardwalk here, but it really doesnt make a lot of difference where you stay on the Strip IMO.

what kind of crowd? how's the poker room?

A few more locals mixed in with the rest I suppose. The room is smallish comparatively but theyve almost doubled the allocation just in the last few years. Ive won many a tournament at Flamingo. Low stakes buyin for no-limit and a reasonably sized field between 25-40.

how's the pool?

The closest Ive been to a pool in Las Vegas is the sidewalk next to Bellagio.

Rules for blackjack almost change casino by casino and if its single deck or not. You should be fine here, but if you like playing at the Luxor, then definately take a night and gamble there. Its all about being comfortable.

ive stayed at the Flamingo.

Bender hit the nail on the head about it. Its not very flashy. But if you are looking for a moderately priced hotel that is still right in the middle of the strip then you picked the right hotel. As for the pool. Its pretty nice. Not as many ladies as Caesars or the Hardrock but there are still a few there.

I will be there in April also but not at the end of the month.

The first poker chip I won is a $1 chip from the Stardust. I carry it with me to every tourney and use it as a cap. :sadwave:

thanks, fellas, i appreciate it. right now we're leaning towards going out on wednesday (4/26) and leaving on that sunday. or we might fly out on friday and come back on tuesday. for some reason, i'm always there for 4 days. seems about right.

I might be in vegas for my bachelor party that thursday 4/26. It's still not fully decided, either then or in May. We too might stay in the flamingo to save some cash since some of my friends are still in school and are po' like me

saint, very nice. i was out there for my cousin's bachelor party 2 years ago. we had a freakin' GREAT time. i've thought for a couple years now... the only reason i might get married is to have a bachelor party in las vegas. anyways... if you think about it, post on here when you know if you'll be out there that weekend. we haven't booked the trip yet, but it's almost definitely gonna be that weekend.

little italy... i didn't realize there were any hotels in vegas where you COULDN'T get laid. hell, i hooked up with a hottie at the trop. probably still the hottest chick i've met out there... unless you count the stipper i fell in love with at cheetahs.

flamingo isn't going to wow you, but it's also not going to disappoint you either. poker room is small but for some reason, i really enjoy playing there. dealers are top notch imo. enjoy your time smitty.

slight change in plans... same weekend (4-26 - 4/30), but we're gonna stay at the mgm grand the first 2 nights and the stratosphere the last 2 nights.

who's gonna be around? saint? anybody else? 10 days and counting....

boilermaker, i appreciate your concern. but if you're gonna be back by 4/21, i think they'll take enough cash off of people over the following 5 days to replenish the coffers just in time for me to drain 'em again.
