He don't get it. So many generals just can't be wrong. New blood with new thinking is dam sure needed. If he had a brain he would make it easy for Bush and retire. If not time for Bush to show some leader ship.

Do we really want Bush making any more decisions? This corruption runs deep.

8 generals now speaking up. What does Rummy say to that. Well theres 100's of generals whats 8. I wonder where he comes up with 100's. Counting dead ones and those not in service anymore.
6 of the 8 served in Iraq.

Whether generals-privites or your ordinary tax paying citizens--can't say I give much credence to any of those that do their barking after being dismissed/retired. Most with integrety will make their comments while in position to do something about it I would say.

Yes you know why they wait. Getting shot is not worth it. We can see how screwed up this has been with out the generals anyway. But it is nice to here them say it. However I agree with the idea have balls to say it earlier even if you know your carrier is going in the chitter.

No way Rumsfeld goes as long as Cheney and pals from PNAC are around. It was Rummy who gave Cheney--his protege--his big break back in the early '70's.

By their account, they *did* speak their mind to Rummy privately but they were ignored. That's their point.

There is no way in hell, ever, that an active General, or really anybody at all, is going to go public with comments like that. You know that.

Remember that one general that went public at the very beginning with much less harsh comments and was promptly relieved.

There is no room for debate within this admin. You see it their way or you see the highway.

++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++

We don't know what was said in privite Matt--but we DO KNOW what was said on record.

Former Clinton CENTCOM commander, Anthony Zinni ? the most prominent of the retired generals attacking Defense Secretary Donald Rumsfeld ? now says that, in the run-up to the war in Iraq, "What bothered me ... [was that] I was hearing a depiction of the intelligence that didn't fit what I knew. There was no solid proof, that I ever saw, that Saddam had WMD."

But in early 2000, Zinni told Congress "Iraq remains the most significant near-term threat to U.S. interests in the Arabian Gulf region," adding, "Iraq probably is continuing clandestine nuclear research, [and] retains stocks of chemical and biological munitions ... Even if Baghdad reversed its course and surrendered all WMD capabilities, it retains scientific, technical, and industrial infrastructure to replace agents and munitions within weeks or months."

Wayne,

You know damn well that virtually any general will go with the company line or risk their career, especially with this admin.

It's 'funny' how when soldiers are quoted on the record, the reports are glowing, but do an anonymous poll and you get much different results.

It's just self-preservation and somewhat understandable. You know how it works.

Understand your point Matt--I would be curious to see what they would have said they would have done different. Granted there were mistakes on planning post war--but mistakes would apply in any war--I think biggest mistake would have been to do nothing.
Granted these Islam extremist care little about consequences but I am convinced the biggest reason we have not been hit again is not from planning but fear of reprisal. I know if I had two enemys and had to burn down ones home and one would do nothing and the otherwould burn down mine and my parents in retaliation--wouldn't take much consideration to know which one I'd choose. ;)

what's wrong with being a bastard ?

i don't know the real reason why these generals are asking for rumsfeld's removal..... my guess would be that they were against rumsfeld's idea of stream-lining the military....i heard that he is trying to make the military more mobile.......

i forgot what show he was on but i heard a general say that the military had a plan in effect for years for over-throwing saddam that called for a military of 600,000 to be used.....

i don't know anything about military strategy, but when i play the game risk i tend to get as many soldiers as posssible to invade another country & that is without worrying about the post war planning.....so based on that i would have sided with the 600,000 number compared with what was used...
