every now and then their is a clear cut #1 choice that u cant fuk up.even if bush is a bust(doubtful)no one would second guess the pick.what they did here is very stupid, its like splitting 10s against a 6 in blackjack,u DONT do it..def ends are a crap shoot anyway, remember the last dend taken #1 in the draft..courtny brown....take the electrifying bush and trade dominic davis for a another 2nd rounder and youve got your self a great draft and a sold out stadium. carr, bush andre johson is a nice young trio, bring in a good coach and use those 2nd rounders on a o linemen and dend you are much improved...i hope $$$ was the reason for this,if it wasnt WOW ,idiots are running the show in texas.

Idiots have been running the show in texas from the beginning as far as personal decisions. They single handedly got Jax out of salary cap hell by taking Boselli off there hands just to get a couple of decent players. Just call them Detroit of the south. This will definetily screwup alot of draft boards and make it very interesting. LOL

fu*# Charley Casserly

fu*# Charley Casserly

I live in Houston and know Charley Casserly is the worst GM in football. He passes on Reggie Bush, Vince Young and takes Mario Williams? I actually feel like crying, I was so happy when they got the first pick, and now
I will not watch one play this year.

i think they blew it because anyone can see they need front line help and could really have addressed that.

BDB,

Absolutely agree with you, what good is Bush w/o an O line, look @ how many times Carr was sacked last year I think it was 68.

Texans don't need either player. they should have been fielding multiple offers for their pick. certainly wait til tomorrow. the texans need an offensive line before they need anything else if they expect to compete with anybody.
The only excuse for the Texans failure to trade the pick for a couple of solid offensive linemen would have been a sexy pick like Bush or Young. As it turns out, the city is in an uproar over ther choice of Williams and the nationwide embarrasment that came with it.

Having said that, Williams clearly has the look of a perrenial Pro Bowler and will make a difference immediately. Just not enough of a difference to overshadow what was one of the worst selections of a #1 pick that I have seen in a long time.

Almost feel bad for Williams, he's going to have this loom over his head his whole career and it's nothing he really had to do with. Comparison will always be there. I stress the word almost though because based on that contract I'd switch spots with him.

i do not feel sorry for a man that just signed a 56million $$ contract. :mj07:

i don't care how good he looked on film, but he played in the acc. he did not play sec,big12,big10, or pac10. i truly question his value as a #1. if they did not want bush than the pick should have been traded,so as to get more pick - OL needed by the texans in a bad way.

the best defenses in the country are in the acc. florida state, miami, tech, georgia tech, north carolina state. even maryland had a better defense than a lot of people realize.

id like to think you agree that deangelo williams' playing in conference-usa shouldnt be used against him when it comes to projecting him on the next level.

gman, according to draftees fla st. should have played in the nat title - not texas.

fla st was a very fast defense, but they are every year- this does not make the acc as a whole very good.imo

how good is the acc's defense? gt,nc st, fla st, miami - none were offensive powers....

memphis's was rated as a great def club back when rip scherer was our coach and we never made a bowl game under him. we were playing poor offensive teams that inflated our numbers. i truly feel that statistics are often misleading - especially depending on the conference.

i just cannot get too excited about a DE that had one good year - as opposed to bush that 2 great seasons back to back.

i love everything about deangelo, but he would not have had the statistical success he had at memphis if we were in a tougher conference. i expect deangelo to do great at caro. thanks.

florida state struggled last year for one reason -- they couldn't score. their offense was pedestrian because of their inexperience at quarterback. both of their options were redshirt freshmen (weatherford and lee). but their defense was loaded and their offense didnt lack talent at the other skill positions.

your definitely right, statistics are misleading. would williams have run for such yardage in the power conferences? probably not. but he would be a stud on any level.

one thing i will say is that im definitely not arguing your point about mario williams individually. because houston passing on bush was beyond stupid. i dont, however, agree with your assessment of acc football. its no longer a top-heavy conference dominated by florida state and then filled with 'also rans'.

good post regardless of differing opinions.

gman, i appreciate your response. i am a bit critical of the acc, but this was a down year for them as a whole. your posts are appreciated and classy.

if it were not for (choker) at miami - they would be competing for the nat title. the state of fla sems to have more talent than 3 other states combined.

peppers, rivers, etc - they have several studs every year.

gl, capping this year - although i don't think you will need the luck.

truly hope williams stays healthy - he is a great person and a great football runner as well.
