I took a break from gambling earlier this year right after the Super Bowl. (1 month) due to family reasons. My home life improved and I enjoyed spending more time with my son. My wife was thrilled that when I came home from work I didn't go straight downstairs to get on line. When I got back in the game, my handicapping was sharper than ever. I thought things couldn't be better. After seeing the look on my wife's face today, after spending the entire weekend on the computer handicapping , playing poker, and betting the horses, I realized I had gone right back to my old routine. She invited me to go with her and my son to his cousins birthday party today. I declined. Life is short. Too short to waste all of my free time racking my brain, looking at every angle, checking the public betting action, pulling up my pre-season power numbers, researching regular season and post season match-ups. Not to mention all the time I spend here posting my plays in hopes of cashing and helping all the other guys out there just like me. I can't remember the last time I watched any sporting event without knowing the line, even if I didn't have any action on it. I LOVE sports betting! Hell, I just love to gamble. That's why this will be my biggest long shot bet ever. I'm not ever going to give up gambling completely. I realize that. My goal is to stop cold turkey until football season starts. This would also include drinking. They go hand and hand ya know. We will see what happens after that.

I know there are many of you out there who can understand where I'm coming from. I hope this post helps you to realize you are not alone.

Good Luck Gentlemen...

I can't even see myself having a girlfriend let alone a family while betting on sports. I know what you mean bro...most of us do even though many of us don't admit it. Take a break and come back with some winners in the NFL. Best of Luck!

mully....

believe me i can understand where you're coming from.....

i made an agreement with my wife that i would bet football & college basketball & nothing else....& that nothing would interfere with family or social functions.....

it's very hard to keep a relationship if we spend most of our awake time gambling or watching sports......

the spouses want time to spend with us (& thinking of them).....which is understandable considering who we are (lol)

hope everything works out for you...

pish posh,
divorce her to so you can get a better focus on sports.
You can always just rent some love by the hour when you get on a hot streak.

On the other hand, knowing when to say when is pretty important. Good job on having the nuts to say it.

Stand up move. Trying to do the same as I finish up graduate school and get everything in order, it's tough to resist on random night when you think you see an angle, but there are bigger things out there. Enjoy the extra free time and don't be a stranger to the forum.

Our life is what our thoughts make it. A man will find that as he alters his thoughts toward things and other people, things and other people will alter towards him.

GL Mully I have not made a bet since the Super Bowl, and I rarely won consistently but when I hit I hit big. Any way instead of having a big bank roll or piss broke I consistently have extra money and my social life is 100x better, but I still need my fantasy sports to keep a little edge on the games play every sport including hockey. GL Mully I will also be back for football just not that strong not to. See you in the fall.

I wonder if your wife is like mine. She won't go to the show with me because she hates action shows. She doesn't want to have sex because it hurts her. She doesn't want to go fishing because she doesn't like it. that goes for any out door activitys too. We have been married for 40 years. I gamble because I have nothing elese to do and she is always on my ass for gambling. Somneone once told me, I gamble because I'm bored with life...

I think I see where you're coming from, Mully. It's all about "TIME".

I too, wish I could pare down the time it takes to 'cap baseball, but how? There is too much to do, and so many games to look at, that I feel like I'm missing something if I rush. Football is much easier...less games, plus I developed a computer program that assists me. Now the Kentucky Derby is on us and that adds a few more hours......geez! ...and don't forget poker, PGA tour, fantasy baseball and golf, horses.

I'm retired, so I have more time, but I'm still pressed. My g'friend works as a 911 operator and has crazy shifts, sometimes 18 hour days, always 12, but then is home for 4-5 days in a row. That's when the trouble starts.

I feel for ya' Mully. Family comes first. I'm not sure there can ever be a proper balance between gambling and family. Most of us find a suitable solution, but is it proper? It seems that if you spend enough time with one, the other suffers.....

All the best with your decision, Mully, but I suspect you'll be back here very soon--so I'll take the favorite on this "longshot".
