Saturday, I completed my New years resolution. I ran in the Country Music Marathon. I only ran the half (13.1 miles) but that what I had planned.

I was runner # 22031 and I was grouped in corral #22 with a wave start.

I have always been a recreational exerciser. All of the sporting events that I have been a part of have basically been a precursors to getting together for a beer. In some instances (softball) the beer flowed during the event. This marathon was a different beast.

Between the gear (yes there is gear besides shoes), supplements, energy boosters (gels, beans), diet suggestions (pro-carbs, fruit), and race format (time chips, numbers, bag check, wave start) I was lost. At the end I had a hard time stepping up on a curb I was so sore ,yet; I started next to a 79 year old and two blind guys that ran behind a dude holding a bungee cord.

Overall, it was great. It was an elite racing production and very well organized. I recommend it to anyone who wants to get back in shape. There were many newbies and out of shape people walking so you wont look weird if you aren't in perfect shape or if you don't have running gear, but you do need good shoes. I think I am doing it again in 2007. I may even go to San Diego and run the Rock n Roll marathon. Seriously it was fun and welcoming to all.

did you get a RWI? Running while intoxicated, JK

Seriously,

Good for you. I've done a couple 10k's, I dont think I could do 13 miles.

nice, blazer. i have always had this in the back of my mind to do, but have never had the confidence to try.

The people I see do it makes me feel like I should just get out there and do it though. Come on, two blind guys? DAMN I'm lazy!

great job, Blazer.
I ran my first 1/2 a couple of years ago in 2.5 hrs and another one last year in just over 2 hrs, 2 hrs 3 minutes to be accurate.
Planning on running a full one this fall if all goes well--hope to just finish it, not worried about time in my first attempt at the distance.

Great job, Blazer. A half is a huge accomplishment.

I too highly recommend running. No gym fees, no equipment (other than clothes/shoes required, and you can just walk out your door and go)...

I was in training for the Cincinnati Flying Pig (next Sunday) and was up to 15 mile long runs. Unfortunately, I ran the Heart Mini 15K a month or so ago and really messed up my knee (overuse injury called Runner's Knee). So for now, I'm shooting for the Chicago Marathon in October.
