I'd just like to hear opinions on who everyone thinks are the most worthless players in baseball.

I think Ritchie Sexson and Adrian Beltre are.

depends on what you mean

worthless in proportion to their salary, or worthless in overall performance

Beltre is truly a waste of both

In terms of salary...as a Red Sox fan, my vote goes to Keith Foulke

While he looks a "little" better than last year, Papelbon seems quite the bargain at $330k as opposed to 8 million for a guy who aint even the closer any more...

Yeah I meant worthless in terms of salary. They both make around 13 million this year. I could put Guardado on the list too he makes about 8 million.

haha also no longer closing games as of yesterday I think...

I finally cut him from the fantasy squad today

Maggs Ordonez was the biggest waste of $16 million in recent history last year...seems to be rebounding nicely though

Livan Hernandez .. $8 million a year.

Send that fat-assed bum back to Castro where he can return to making $8 dollars a month.

this thread needs no more discussion. the answer is Jason Kendall. No one else is even worthy of discussion. He's the most overpaid piece of garbage in the history of baseball. yes, history. go back 150 years and you will never find another candidate that fits this bill better. he's a joke. he should be banished from baseball. he should be hung by his testicles and apologize to all fans of baseball for ripping them off.

Kendall checks in at a cool $11,492,454 salary for 2006. That's right A's fans. Why do all your pitchers go away. Because you sign fcknig morons like Kendall to big contracts. So what do you get for 11 million plus. How about so far this year a robust .225 average with 2 extra base hits. none of which were home runs. has he ever hit a ball past middle infield?

How about a full season? Last year he made $10,571,429. What do you get for that? lets see....how about nothing. a typical power spot in the lineup at catcher you get a .271 hitter with 0 home runs and not one clutch hit.

All the naysayers can argue he leads the league in not striking out. So the fck what. If he taps the ball directly to an infielder instead of striking out, is there a difference. And don't forget he throws like 1 in 30 baserunners out. The runners trip somewhere along the basepath too for the ones he gets.

He's a complete disgrace to baseball, and the position of catcher. The A's caught a break in his 4 game suspension. They won't lose once during that time. When you rid cancer for 4 games even, the effects are amazing. Then we he comes back, watch as the team will slump again.

I'm not sure if injured players fall into this category, but I would like to nominate Mike Sweeney.

I think its a lil early for u to all be dissin these guys for this year. wait till the end of the season before u make a judgement i would think. but as far as talent and salary wasted for the last few years. Ken Griffey Jr. is #1 and the guy who is 2nd is not even within a hundred miles of him. Jr has been a bust period since he has been in cincy. He reminds me of Glass Joe in the old boxing game on nintendo. 116 million from 2000-2009 the reds will be lucky to get 3 years of total playing time from him out of the 9 year contract. Biggest bust in sports history period.

Jason kendall at 11 mil thats a joke also. He is not even one of the top 10 catchers in baseball. Other waste of talent that got the huge paydays. C.C. sabathia he will weigh 400 before his career ends. shawn green 84 million over 5 years. mike hampton average salary 15 mil a year till 2008.

there is a ton more if you look hard every roster has them. baseball will kill itself in the next few years unless they do something with these salaries and revenue. with expansion, the talent pool is dwindling and salaries will only continue to rise to stay competitive. i love baseball but its has become a cooperation instead of a game which is sad.

you are correct. he did throw out 22 runners last year. too bad he also allowed 101 stolen bases for a whopping 17.9% of throwing out runners. worst in baseball by a longshot.

as for neverteaseit, agree on griffey, but hard to fault a guy like him for injury. yeah, hes a wasted contract and all, but its not like he's underperforming while out there. a guy like kendall goes out there and makes a fool of himself nightly and gets paid. and acts like a bitch going after lackey for an inside pitch. and wears body armor on his elbows like the bitch he is.

i agree let guys go at least to the break before making judgements, but this guy has been a joke for a long time.

17.9% cant be the worst in baseball

impossible

Theres a guy this year who is 1-27, i cant remember what team...

but no, 17.9 is definately not "good"...

he used to at least hit for average, even thats gone to shit though

victor martinez if 4 for 30 throwing out runners this year, but with his bat, he can never throw down and be okay.

dionner navarro. worst dodger prospect in years is 0 for 16 this year. that will be 0 for 100 by seasons end, but he doesn't make much money and plays on a a really bad baseball team.

as for 2005, jason kendall at 17% was the worst for sure with anyone more than 20 attempts or so.

can you tell how much i hate him and he is single handedly destroying the game i love.

injury is part of the game bdb but for him to be injured every year. thats a waste to me. can u blame him? maybe, maybe not. maybe his training regiment coincides with his injuries. don't know. he was on course to shatter all records then bam. but every year its the same ole same ole for him and reds fans. plus he's not getting younger.

burnitz is only a .255 career hitter and even when he played in colorado he couldnt break .290. people love the long ball hitters but you u gotta drive them in with singles and doubles also. burnitz is the dave kingman of the 2000's plain and simple.
