That guy could pitch out of the bullpen for 4 more years, as a lefty specialist or closer etc.

not for $18m a year...

i have been a yankee fan for some time & i'm here to say that the yankees are one of the most over-rated teams in all of sports....

for a team to rely on a 44 year old pitcher to be your ace is criminal.....

& i have read that the're after clemens also....another 44 year old pitcher...

additionally they rely only on the long ball....& have a terrible fielding team....with giambi at first, matsui, sheffield, & williams in the out field...

they may win the championship, because they will out hit everybdoy else, but they are a disgraceful team...& money was poorly spent....

now don't get me started on the knicks (lol)...

sorry for the rant...

I'm as disappointed as any Yankee fan, but Randy Johnson needs to retire. He is an embarrassment to the team. His velocity is down and he can't throw a fuc kin strike. Come on George! Quit spending your damn money on hitting and spend it on some damn pitching! :cursin: :cursin:

I'm not sure either. Why do they continue to pick up big name players that can't produce? Randy Johnson, Carl Pavano, Javier Vasquez,... They let the two guys go who can actually pitch: Jose Contreras and Orlando Hernandez. Actually, El Duque is not pitching good this year but he was solid for the Sox last year

I'm also a Yankee fan and think it is disgraceful what has become of this team since the end of their champ. run. They need to do their best to off load some of that ridiculous salary and look at rebuilding through their system. That is what got them the 4 championships in the first place. Guys like Rivera, Pettite, Jeter, Posada, Soriano, etc. All players brought up through the Yankees minor league system.

When Stein*%#*@*brenner spends money to hold on to guys like that and they win, I feel great but when you go out and spend $200+ million to fill over half your team with overrated, over the hill guys and can't even put a starting rotation together, TERRIBLE!!

Take the hit for a 2-3 years George, rebuild your minor league system, do what got you there before and go on another 5-6 year tear and maybe you will hear people (Yankee fans included) stop talking about how you're contiually trying to buy a championship.

Again, disgraceful!

Speaking of defense you can add Posada to that list and Jeter certainly didn't deserve the gold glove last year. Cabrera and Uribe were superior fielders. Unless the Yanks bite the bullett it is like the same kind of treadmill of winning but not championship quality baseball you suffered from in the 1980s. First thing first, get some damn quality defense up the middle.

the reason why the homegrown talent flourished was becasue of gene michael & buck showalter. they ran the yanks while steinbrenner was suspended for a year or 2 because of the winfield mess...
