Belated thanks, Big Daddy

Will update the record later

Like the Angels pitcher a lot and looking for a new time knuckleballer to be even harder to hit than a vet.

Welcome back, Charlie Hough!!

Under 9.5 (+106) 1 unit

ive been out of the baseball loop for a little bit, but why didn't the sox just move mccarthy from the pen and give him a spot start? isn't his future in the rotation anyways?

local writers had two thoughts on this from one of my radio shows

They don't want to pull McCarthy from an already weak pen. He's gotten much better adjusted to his role. It sounded earlier in the year that coming out of the pen was going to possibly be a bit of a hurdle for him

This kid looked really good down there and this is an opportunity to see what they got

They also thought the way the Sox are handling this tells them the Contreras injury may not be that bad

What IO said . . . and from whitesox.com

Reliever Brandon McCarthy could've replaced Contreras, and his addition to the staff was based in part as a sixth starter in reserve. But McCarthy would only move into the rotation if Contreras' injury became a prolonged problem, as the right-hander has not been stretched out enough to pitch more than three or four innings, putting undue stress on the bullpen.

It's a decision that does not trouble McCarthy, as he told MLB.com on Monday. But it's also a decision that could be reversed for the next start from Contreras' spot on Monday in Minnesota.

"We are giving him a week to [stretch out]," said Guillen of McCarthy. "We can flip-flop Mac and Haeger. It's better off for the ballclub doing it this way."
