Jenks not worrying about long-term pact
White Sox closer Bobby Jenks is not in the business of waiting for handouts.
As far as the second-year closer is concerned, if the organization has any immediate plans to lock him up with a contract extension, it will come on the Sox' terms and when they feel like he has earned it.
"It's never really been brought up by anybody,'' Jenks said Wednesday. "I would love it if something like that came along because I would like to think that I found a home over here in this organization.
"It's something that hasn't been talked about yet, but something I would love to talk about with them if it came up.''
Since being called up last July, Jenks has emerged as a power arm who brings a certain intimidation to the ninth inning that the Sox haven't had in close to a decade. Billy Koch was supposed to bring that sort of presence, but that experiment failed.
The hope is Jenks can fill that closer role for years to come.
"If they want to talk about it, great,'' Jenks said. "I would be happy with the offer or whatever comes out of it. But right now, I'm just getting myself through this year, and if something does come up, I'll worry about it then.''
