Her own daughter has to be sick of her :142smilie

NEW YORK (AP) - After telling an audience that young people today ``think work is a four-letter word,'' Sen. Hillary Rodham Clinton said she apologized to her daughter.

``I said, 'I'm sorry, I didn't mean to convey the impression that you don't work hard,''' Clinton said Sunday in a commencement address at Long Island University. ``I just want to set the bar high, because we are in a competition for the future.'' :142smilie

Clinton spoke to more than 2,000 graduates days after she criticized young people at a gathering of the U.S. Chamber of Commerce in Washington. In those remarks, she said young people have a sense of entitlement after growing up in a ``culture that has a premium on instant gratification.''

The senator said that her daughter, Chelsea, phoned to complain after learning about the comments. The 26-year-old was hired in 2003 by McKinsey & Co. as a consultant, reportedly for a six-figure salary. She received a master's degree from Oxford University after graduating from Stanford University in 2001.

``She called and she said, 'Mom, I do work hard and my friends work hard,''' Clinton said Sunday.

New York's junior senator, who is up for re-election this year, also told the graduates she plans to introduce a bill that would help college students manage and repay their loans. The proposal would limit loan payments to a certain percentage of their incomes, she said.

I'm not sure what that would accomplish other than costing the graduates MORE over the long haul because the interest would keep adding up on what they would have been paying. After I return to school this fall and facing the daunting prospect of significant loans, I just hope to be able to pay off as much as I can afford to to keep from being murdered by the interest.

I took Hilary's college repayment plan to mean that we would give even more free rides and that students would only have to pay back a % based on their annual salary.

Student X gets a 100k year job and has to pay back 30k in school costs - TOTAL
Student Y gets a 50k year job and has to pay back 15k in school costs - TOTAL.

that's how I interpreted it.

Granted, I dont know much about what I am talking about or how it could be enforced.

Then again our college tuition system is so hosed up it is disgusting. People cry about an extra 50 cents a gallon at the pump - what about the extra 15k they are tacking on college tuition every friggin year so hippie profs can get higher salaries to spew more filth on our youth?

I think she should have stuck to her statement. I never seen it so easy for kids to get higher education compared to 50/60's.
Student loans. Breaks on housing don't remember that. G I Bill yes but you served to get that help.
As for student loans now. Don't jack interest rates to make bankers rich.
