"the bunker"
WASHINGTON (AP) — ""Despite talk of an energy crisis and the need for independence from foreign oil, Congress seems to be in no mood to open more of the country’s coastal waters to energy development.

The House late Thursday rejected an attempt to end the quarter-century ban on oil and natural gas drilling that has been in effect for 85 percent of the country’s coastal waters from Alaska to New England despite arguments that new supplies are needed to lower energy costs.

Lawmakers from Florida and California, who led the fight to continue the drilling moratorium, said they feared energy projects as close as three miles from shore could jeopardize multibillion-dollar tourism industries in their states.

“People don’t go to visit the coasts of Florida or the coast of California to watch oil wells,” Rep. Sam Farr, D-Calif., said.""

incredible...you need to print the names of those who vote against drilling, so the next time they or their constituents whine about gas prices, somebody can shove a bowling ball up their asses...

the hypocrisy is stultifying...it's the same bunch who scream that we didn't connect the dots before 9/11......

then when we try and connect the dots, we're invading people's privacy...

but if we get hit again, why didn't we connect the dots? ...

at $3.50 a gallon nobody`s visiting the coast...at $5 a gallon they'll vote to drill into their own mother's heads......

wonder what rep. farr`s going to say when hugo and fidel drill for oil off the florida coast?

chumps...

no they don't

the leftists control both houses

Conservatives make up about 50% of the Republican party

the rest are a bunch of big-government, power hungry leftists

What we can obtain off the coast and in ANWAR are very short term solutions, and would not make anything cheaper. This oil is nowhere near as easy to extract or plentiful as what we import. Price would not be cheaper, it would only delay the inevitable switch to another fuel source, and it would be a pretty big environmental risk in the meantime.

Why not focus the effort on alternate fuels?

And for the record, I'm in favor of higher gas prices - so at least I'm not being a hypocrite on this issue.
