I'm trying to get into this since it's probably the biggest thing in the international sporting world, but I just can't. Guess I'm just a typical American? What I don't like is how if there's any contact, the players just flop and try to get a yellow card for the other team. :142smilie Seriously, be a little tougher.

Sweden 0 Trinidad Tobago 0 64:01

Maybe I'll grow into liking it?

I watched the opening match (Ger vs. CstRic) and it was great.

Soccer is a different game, more like hockey than our Football.

This Tnt vs. Swe game is also very good.

I must be missing something if this game is good. I suffered through all of it trying to make myself enjoy it and appreciate the sport. I failed.

I'm with you on this one happy hunter. I just don't get the draw of watching a gigantic tennis match played with your feet for 90+ minutes and the score ending 0-0.

ALMOST makes Nascar seem exciting.

Moe, I'm agreeing with you, I don't get it. I think SixFive was saying the exact same thing, it's not for lack of trying, I just don't get how that was an exciting game.

People complained the year the Devils won the Stanley Cup because the trap wasn't exciting hockey, fair enough, but if winning a hockey game 2-0 is boring, what the heck is 90 minutes of 0-0 soccer?

Moe you are being a little tough here. I think soccer is unlike many sports in that if you didn't grow up playing, it's hard to become an overnight fan. That 0-0 game was entertaining because there were battles within that game, unending pressure on TT etc. But for those who haven't followed it or played for years, it's missing the initial draw that many people need. It doesn't have the high scoring americans are used to, to the eye doesn't have the big hits of football or hockey (to the trained eye soccer is extremely physical) that a new viewer would need to keep interest high. To me it's the greatest game in the world but I'm sure like Moe I grew up playing.

To those who are trying to get into the hype, I'd suggest waiting to make a decision until some of the better matchups arrive. The quality of soccer in the last couple of games (Sweden game and the Poland game IMO) have been lacking a bit. If you missed the opener with Germany, that would have been a game that probably would have suited newer viewers. Even still, Germany only played technically good ball in spurts and it was more of lackluster defense than their play IMO. In the later rounds you will get to appreciate a higher level of soccer being played as the field thins.

their is 0-0 clunkers.and thiers 0-0 games like the one we or i just saw.the sweeden game was not a clunker..thier was no trap being played .it was a good team that killed the t%t midfield all game long but could not get past the last 2 guys of def.#5 sanch(st johns alum) and the goalie..its like in hockey when the crappy team is up by one and holding off the last 5 min barrage by the elite team.but in this case they held off a 90 min barrage...imagine somebody watching baseball without knowing the intricacies of the game.it would be horrible.same for nascar.and even football.you need to know the game inside out to really appreciate it...dont get me wrong their is some boring soccer out their and so far in the cup thier was 1 boring game and it was the england game and only that game so far.

You found the Poland game entertaining? I mean, I find all soccer entertaining but that was some crap football played by the poles. I guess if you liked the 'underdog' angle but since I am a poland supporter (cue polish jokes here) I found the game a bit irritating.

ecuador played a solid game.yes the underdog role may have had something to do with it also.and yes the poles suked for 80 mins.they did hit beat the goalie and hit the post twice in the final 5 mins...was it a great game no,was it boring no.it was a good game.

Hey Moe, I posted this a genuine thread. Also, I didn't "wait" for anything. The game was on, I decided in May I was going to watch some World CUp and understand it, this was the first game I had the chance to watch. I watched a lot of the Ivory Coast game too, and that game was more entertaining for me.

I was rooting for T&T since they were the underdog as I had no other vested interest in the game. At the end, you would have thought T&T had won, but they just tied? Thought that was weak. Whoopty-do, we played 90 straight minutes and we tied!! HELL YEAH??

As far as the "jackass hick" comment, right back at you, you yankee bastard. :142smilie

On the course!
It simply comes down to understanding the game, as Moe and Saint have stated.

If you watched a movie filmed in a different language, chances are pretty good that you would not enjoy it that much. You might figure out this and that, but over all.......you aint diggin' the whole ordeal.

To me, that's what this sport is. I never took the time to learn what it is about, so I find it boring. If you don't understand it, it IS a bunch of running up and down a big back yard! But, as was stated.......Millions of people watch, play, and love the game, and some even kill, and die for it, so there must be something to it, for the ones who "get it"!

Some love it......some don't. No big deal, is it?

what jackass hick comment???sorry. lost big on that game and vented a litlle.
as for the tie ,thatwas a big point for t&t..they were +$1000 for the game and sweden was -450 so good tie for t&T and bad one for the swedes..thats why they were very excited.and they played shorthanded for the whole 2nd hf.

That Swed/T&T was great. How could not pull for a HEAVY dog, the in their 1st ever WC match & being the smallest nation to ever quaility for the WC playing a very strong Sweden side???

If that wasnt enough they were playing 10 vs 11....& they still prevailed....yes prevailed....a draw in that match is HUGE victory for T&T.

The Argentina v Ivory Coast game was great too....tons of action

Heaven, oh!!, this isn't it?!
Ok, my 2 cents.................
Having played this game for 3/4 of my life, makes this tourney so much more signfiicant. Not sure it I would even watch, much less wager if I had not played the sport :com:
Best game so far was Germany vs. Costa Rica...........

Watch the first two games today (Sun) and then the Czech/USA(Mon) game. That might help to bring things into perspective........

There is nothing more exciting than watching world cup soccer matches, seriously! I will not miss one game and I am stuck to the tub from 9am EST to 4:45pm ESt (viewing all 3 games per day). Today's matches (yes all 3) should be beautiful, especially the iran-mexico game.
enjoy

Never watched it--but the most viewed sport world wide so can't argue with that--however read somewhere that pro wrestling ranks near top of hits on internet??. Have always wondered why soccor fans are so violent--more deaths occur in fan related incidents than all other sports combined--1st thing that came to mind when Moe jumped on Clint for stating a non abusive opinion.
