Vanished into vortex
Yea, I know it's a kid thing, but my 7 year old loves these things. Went to the park today to lauch a few off and the same thing keeps happening, the engine melts the parachute shut.

As you can imagine the rocket decends MUCH faster minus the parachute.

I'm following the directions and they launch just fine, almost lose sight of them they go so high, but I have to be missing something to keep melting the parachute.

I did this quite a bit as a kid

I did this quite a bit as a kid

and now I do them for my nieces and nephews..

The key piece to this is called the WADDING. you stuff it down the tube before you put the parachute in. It is essential. Normally 6-8 squares of it, you crumple them up like toilet paper.

But make sure you go buy the wadding that Estes sells - it's pretty cheap. DON'T use toilet paper, as it just starts on fire and makes matters worse.

Good Luck!

He told me its all about the wadding
Also add in flour so you can see the "poof" when it opens
