sad deal! How about this. In Kentucky it's not illegal to not wear a helmet. It's optional, & I would say the majority do not wear a helmet. I call them "organ donors".

I think Indiana has the same law but can anyone answer this. Why is it not a law to wear a helmet when riding a motorcycle but they strictly enforce the seatbelt law?

I would guess the answer might be this:

Studies have shown that seatbelts will save your life, or dramatic cut the risk of serious injury in most car accidents.

In motorcycle accidents, once the speed hits a certain mark, (fairly low, by "speed" standards) it doesn't matter if you have a helmet on or not.

Just a guess...............

Not only no helmet, but that motorcycle above, is the fastest most powerful bike Street legal in this country. Not good decision making.

suprisingly, this has been a pretty hot issue in the past. People that wanted a helmet law wanted it for obvious reasons. Those who were for helmet choice felt imposing a helmet law was infringing on their individual rights. I'm not sure if the ACLU was involved or not (seems like they were), but I know it did make for some odd bedfellows.

You Canadians also have some very strict gun control laws too compared to ours. All those desolate wide open areas where you could get mugged, and it nearly takes an act of God to be able to carry legally.

It varies from state to state, just glad we have a helmet law here in Tennessee. The only states that I know for sure that don't have a helmet law is Indiana, Kentucky, and Pennsylvania but I'm sure there are others.

It has been my experience that most people that want a helmet law no longer or never have ridden a motorcycle with a helmet on. One they are very restrictive and limiting to your line of sight. Two, regardless of what anybody thinks it is still my God given right or Bill of Rights given right, however you want to look at it, to have my head squashed like a grape if I so desire.
I always find it laughable when those that it will not affect want the government to impose more laws governing the few that it does.
In case nobody read it........the lack of helmet didn't hurt him, it was the idiot that turned in front of him for what ever reason.
Everything that people do for thrills, excitement, or what ever have risks. Shall we impose a law that all scuba divers must wear chain mail suits because there are sharks? Maybe noone should be able to swim, fish or boat at night? Everytime something contains a danger to oneself doesn't mean a law needs to be passed to supposedly save ones life. It isn't about saving anyones life..............its all about others trying to impose their views and ideas on others. Why doesn't everyone try to think of their own favorite hobby and ask if we should make some aspect of it illegal to protect you from yourself. That ridiculous and so is saying that we need to impose more laws on people. Enforce the friggin ones we have hows that?????? Stop poaching, illegal logging, price gouging, uphold anti-trust laws, see that anyone and everyone stops littering, put drug dealers in jail not on probation, then worry about a friggin helmet law.

I think PITT might look to do some editing to his contract now, stating he can't ride.

Last year I thought he had a regular street bike and not a sport bike, but I don't know for sure

Thanks for your answers about those special states... Indeed i think Pitt and other NFL teams will start to add more and more clauses in the players contract about what he cant do.... When you put millions $ on a franchise player, you want to protect your "investment". Think how many millions $ are lost now for the Steelers with what happened.

Reminds me of a few years ago when i drove past a motorcycle accident involving a telephone pole, there were ambulances, cops and bystanders all around, and couldn't really see anything driving by, except a helmet lying on sidewalk, and my buddy says 'at least he was wearing one'. Come to find out on the news later, his head was still in it!!!!! They say he hit the pole and it popped right off. Guess they don't work all the time

Like I posted, when there was controversy around here regarding a helmet law, it made for odd bedfellows. You had the ACLU liberal type hand in hand with the Harley Davidson crew and other cyclists. Probably the first issue they ever agreed on.

I don't ride, but really, I'm torn on this issue. I agree that if people want to ride and give themselves a greater chance of being brain dead (organ donor), we need lots of organs. However, I think it might protect young people who might not be experienced and know all the dangers of not wearing a helmet. I've seen plenty of no helmet bikers/4-wheelers, and it's never pretty.

We've had 3 bikers die here in the last month. One was not wearing a helmet (accident his fault) and 2 were (driver under the influence went across the center line and plowed over 3 bikers. The one who lived, lost a leg). You're always at the mercy of other drivers, helmet or not.

i agree...we don't need a law to tell people to wear a helmet. however there should be a law for minors (don't know if there is one), who ride on motorcycles to wear a helmet....can't rely on the intelligence of adults to make sure that minors are wearing helmets.

very surprised that teams don't have restrictions in player contracts about riding bikes....thought that they were smarter than that.
