Rice/Miami Night Game

Rice/Miami Night Game

This is what I could find on tonight's game:

A pair of bullpen masters who are making the transition to prime time starters will take the mound tonight for both teams. Junior Danny Gil (4-2, 2.80 ERA) will get the starting nod for UM (42-22) and has not allowed an earned run in 11.1 innings on the mound this postseason. Gil is making just his fifth career start.

Rice (56-11) will put the ball in the hands of closer Cole St. Clair (6-2, 1.95 ERA, 11 saves). St. Clair is making just his second start this season and will hope to duplicate his effectiveness as a closer (94 strikeouts in 69.1 innings) into success as a starter.

In his other start this year, this is how St. Clair fared:

On The Other Side
Poon,

I like Rice. As I said earlier, I believe Rice is the best team in this tournament. Miami looked really impressive against Oregon State, but this is one of the weakest Miami teams in recent years. I have a feeling the Canes shot their load against the Beavers. Yes, pun intended!

RICE -250

I'm on Rice at -220 (line just moved in favor of Rice).

I like the Miami team as they are scrappy. They like the underdog role as motivation. However, tonight they play a team that is far better than any they faced so far in the tourney.

Rice definitely has the pitching advantage. I think it is interesting St. Clair is getting the start, but he will probably be looked to for only a few innings, just like his other start. That is fine though as they have several guys that can come into this game that have fared well as both relievers and starters (7 different Rice Pitchers started a game this year).

Considering the bats, Rice has a slight advantage. Both teams are similar in that they don't have guys that instill a ton of fear in another pitcher, but they are solid throughout the lineup.

It's a steep price, but I'm going with Rice. Good luck no matter what you play.

Wise,

was doing my write-up and didn't see your response. Good to see we are on the same side tonight.

I completely agree with you regarding Miami. If you look at their schedule, not only did they have a relative "easy" path to Omaha (I do realize no path to Omaha is a cake-walk), their regular season record against top teams is not favorable.
