Pitchers

Pitchers

I will update if there are any changes:

UNC - Daniel Bard - he's their 3rd starter with really good stuff. Probably heard how he was a 1st round draft pick.

Fullerton - Wes Roemer - Pitched 2/3 of an inning yesterday in relief. Pitched 8 innings giving up 5 against UNC on Friday. he's a trooper who will be looking to get back at UNC.

*******************

Rice - ?? - I really don't know who they are going to throw. Could be Crow, Savery or McDaniel. All are rested and should have good stuff.

OSU - Dallas Buck - I'm guessing they come back with their #1 starter. He gave up 7 in 5 innings on Friday against Miami. For the season he is 1-1 picthing after a loss.

The first game starters have been reported (by multiple sources) as the actual guys going. Don't think there will be any changes.

The 2nd game are my assumptions.

BBB,

Right now I'm leaning towards both Dogs. I think their is value in those numbers. Lines moving heavily towards both favorites but I don't mind being opposite the public on these.

As for the first game, I know Roemer is a stud, but I'll take a rested Bard. He's had awhile to focus on this game. I expect him to come out sharp. Not sure if the line will keep moving up or not.

As for the second game, I will wait to make my play until I know the actual starters. I like OSU's momentum they got going right now.

I will be back with more later hopefully.

Can UNC beat Fullerton two times in a row? The Titans are a great ball club, and they know how to win come post-season time. I'm leaning towards Fullerton in this one.

1st Game Thoughts/Pick

1st Game Thoughts/Pick

Offensively I give UNC the edge. It is true that CSF knows how to win in the post-season, but UNC has better offensive power. Over the course of the season, they have had a distinctively better average, slug. % and run production than Fullerton.

Roemer is a great pitcher, no doubt about that [13-1, 2.16 ERA, 149.2 IP, 116 H, 6 BB, 140 K?s]. Those stats don?t include his CWS work, but it has been documented how he has performed. Bard doesn?t have the same stingy statistics, but isn?t bad himself [8-3, 3.59 ERA, 87.2 IP, 74 H, 35 BB, 90 K?s].

Fullerton definitely has the advantage regarding the starting pitching. However, the fact Roemer has appeared twice already in the CWS, I think will make him a little less sharp than usual.

It should also be noted that if UNC loses and these two play again tomorrow, I?m expecting UNC to throw Miller. Whether they would use Woodard in a relief role in either game is unknown, but a great option to UNC.

I know Wise pointed out that it is tough to beat Fullerton twice. However, I?m looking at this play in the opposite way. I think it will be quite difficult for Fullerton to beat UNC two days in a row considering UNC?s pitching abilities.

Given that, I?m taking this as almost a chase play. I?m putting one unit on UNC today. If they go again tomorrow, I?ll be on UNC to win two units.

Only one team in the last 25 years (USC in 1998) has won the College World Series after losing its opening game. It's certainly not a statistic that warms the hearts of Cal State Fullerton fans or the winner of tomorrow's Georgia-Oregon State elimination game. It is good news for the four teams which won in the opening round: Clemson, North Carolina, Rice and Miami. Fifteen of the last 16 national titles have been won by a team that started 2-0 in Omaha.

Well, Miami and Clemson have been eliminated, so the odds of Rice and UNC getting it done have increased in my opinion. Also, for the third year in a row, an unseeded team (UNC) won its first two games at the CWS. The other two teams went on to win it all. This information has me leaning towards the Heels and Owls now.
