WASHINGTON, June 22 — ""Under a secret Bush administration program initiated weeks after the Sept. 11 attacks, counterterrorism officials have gained access to financial records from a vast international database and examined banking transactions involving thousands of Americans and others in the United States, according to government and industry officials.
The program is limited, government officials say, to tracing transactions of people suspected of having ties to Al Qaeda by reviewing records from the nerve center of the global banking industry, a Belgian cooperative that routes about $6 trillion daily between banks, brokerages, stock exchanges and other institutions. The records mostly involve wire transfers and other methods of moving money overseas and into and out of the United States. """""Most routine financial transactions confined to this country are not in the database.""""
why does the n.y.t.`s claim to act "in the public interest" when it clearly has kicked all logic to the curb in it`s pursuit to "get bush".....
this is legal..they know it....
does anyone care that this practice puts all americans in jeopardy?...
and that the the more the liberal press seeks to expose, the more the government will be FORCED to become secretive.....
AND this comes on the heels of the bust of the wanna-be home grown terrorists in miami...
talk about irony.....n.y.c. is moaning and groaning about not getting enough money to fight terror and the n.y.t.`s is thwarting every effort they can to fight terrorism....maybe the citizens of n.y.should rise up and turn against that sleezeball publication and demand accountability.
is n.y.c. interested in fighting terror or not? ...
i hope people on the left actually start thinking about this stuff....it should actually help the right and hurt the left....
as it gives people insight into how the administration is fighting terrrorism, and makes the left look like a bunch of cowardly (and treasonous) whiners......
