I voted for this guy the first time, but can't believe He's our President. I know what I'm about to say is small and most people will say, I have to much time on my hands. I have been up all night, was on the job site @ 10:00 pm until 6:00 am this morning. I do allot. I think allot. I work Hard. This is just a rant, and a thought that I have had before, just trying to find any little edge to get us out of this mess. I know It wont do any good, I wounder if the President and the people around him think of such things ? When the President finished his 4th speech, He ended with May GOD BLESS AMERICA. I had that feeling that I had before, This guy is smug. He comes off ,like God belongs to America. Other Presidents have said it, it's just the way he delivers it. What if you are not in America ? Not American, but you love peace and freedom, or maybe you are an American fighting in Iraq. I have always believed in the power of the spoken word, words have meaning, and people are touched or pushed away by them. We can't win this war on terror alone. What if the President ended his speeches with : May GOD BLESS AMERICA AND ALL THOSE WHO EMBRACE PEACE AND FREEDOM AROUND THE WORLD . (OR) MAY GOD BLESS AMERICA ; GOD BLESS US ALL.

I guess most of us think like you. When I was a kid I always asked why, and it has worked for me. If I was a kid in Bangladesh, and I listened to the President of America, and he ended a speech with , God bless America. I would have asked my mom or dad, why does God bless America mom ? Doesn't God bless Bangladesh ?

I don't know if smug. But he says the dam-nest things. And he has that high shoulder look like, dam. Maybe it's his delivery. But your not all wrong.

In my opinion, George Bush 2 is one of the most smug people I have ever seen. He is dismissive, egotistical, and brash in his demeanor. What makes it more difficult to take is that he is always trying to "educate" everyone on issues and tries to look like he has a firm grasp on any issue...and he talks down to others. He is nothing like his father in how he comes across. I think the word smug is the perfect word to describe the guy...I can think of none better.

Talking down is a good point Chad. I get the feeling when he say's we or us. That means about 50 to 100 folks not the rest of us.

My point was ,not just the ending but the tone of the speech. When a person brings God into it, it becomes a prayer to me. I pray ever day. We are the leaders of the free World, I think President Bush would not only agree with that statement, but embrace it. I was looking for something like this, look at how these two speeches end. The last few sentences are Leaders building bridges around the world: http://www.bartluby.com/124/pres62.html http://www.bartluby.com/124/pres56.html

for some reason they won't work, I'm not smart enough to figure it out. what is the easy way to post a link ? I was try to get to The second inaugural address of Ronald Reagan and John Kennedy's. I think the last one or two paragraphs in both speeches are the type of ideals and leadership that I'm looking for. It's all about message, and perception. I feel our leaders can do better in representing America to the world. I don't think it's America the world doesn't have much love for. It's our politicians and business leaders they don't like, most Americans agree with the rest of the world.

Got to agree George W is kinda smug.

What gets me is his constant winking at people. Its usually woman in a photo op but I have seen him wink many times.

He thinks its cute, but it makes him look kinda stupid.

I cant think of any other President I seen winking.

Spot on. I like the way he gives that self-congratulating smirk on the rare occasion when he makes it through a sentence with no grammar slipups or awkward bumbles.
