I have been selected as one of the 4 students to participate in this study. Excited to say the least. Should be a great opportunity. Back to studying, last final tomorrow
Here is a copy of an email that went out to all the students.
If you are interested participating in a Gaming Direct Study, please contact Prof. Stoker directly. A mimimum of 2 credits will be earned depending upon the length of the research paper. Specifications are listed below.
The directed study will consist of the following:
1. Identifying all gaming related criminal and civil statutes in each of the 50 states of the United States;
2. Providing appropriate cites of all relevant statutes;
3. Providing a copy of each cited statute;
4. Drafting a brief description of each state criminal and civil statute based upon a format provided by Professor Stoker; and
5. Drafting a brief description and analysis of each case interpreting each cited statute..
Each of the four students will be assigned specific states for which the student is to perform the requested research. Every effort will be made to assign substantially equal workloads to each student.
The assembled materials will serve as the basis for state by state gaming law summaries that will appear in Casino Lawyer and other publications that are published by the International Masters of Gaming Law, a 501(c)(3) non-profit educational organization. Recognition will be given by the International Masters of Gaming Law to each student successfully participating in the Directed Study, including an article, with pictures, in Casino Lawyer highlighting the role of the students and the Michigan State Law School in assembling and analyzing the requested data. This Directed Study presents an interesting opportunity for students interested in pursuing gaming law as a possible career track.
