Hi Guys,

I recently got a virus on my computer. I had to pay someone to get it off my computer and it was a real pain in the ass.

The guy who fixed it told me that I might have got a virus from an online casino.

He said that once you download the casino, then you are vulnerable to an attack by the casino.

I can't understand why the casino would do this, but this is what the guy told me.

Have any of you heard of this before? If so, is there any way to stop this?

Thanks guys, I appreciate the help.

The casinos or sites don't put the parasites on your PC. The bugs are activated by words, let's say "screensaver-""gift"-"teen" etc.
It seems that you need a spyware that will recognize and intercept the intruder first.
They are usually advertising and annoying solicitations but if they persist, you will be visited by the likes of about-blank at which time you may as well put your machine out with the trash. If you find one in your program files or on your task bar or even your desktop,
right click it to properties and try to identify it, google up and find out what it does and how to get rid of it

Thanks Dan.

That is the one I had, about-blank.

It kept coming up and I could not connect to the internet.

How can I prevent this from happening again?

A friend of mine told me to get an all-in-one anti-virus, spyware and firewall program from Panda Security. He said that this one is one of the best.

I just would like to know what to do in the future so that this does not happen again.

I was using Norton anti-virus and webroot spy sweeper, but I still got the virus. Like you said, these programs should have recognized the threat and got rid of it for me. I don't know why they didn't.

Any other help would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks.

3 things I would do.
1/Have your friend take you through the whole drill, financially and workability. I've been burned so I overkill. The system cleaned once a week etc.
2/ Get rid of IC for Opera or Mozilla/firefox
3/NEVER click on a gambling or porn site. If you want one, click ctrl/O and access it yourself

Dan,

Thanks a lot for the help. One more quick question.

I have mozilla fire fox on my computer now. Why do you suggest I get rid of it?

Also, you mention accessing the casino sites by pressing ctrl/o. Why? How does this differ from accessing the site by clicking on it?

Thanks again, I appreciate it.

Mozzilla & Opera are safer than IE
When you access a site, it goes direct.
IE: type in mj direct opposed to clicking on someone else's server
Oh yeah, "ringtones" is another common word to avoid

What if I download the casino to my computer?

Is this okay?

Most casino's require that you download their software to your computer in order to play at them.

You then just open the casino up from your computer.

Is there anything I could do to protect myself when it comes to this?

Thanks.

Once you are in, there usually is no problem. You are already protecting yourself by being careful
