another one.....that`s 3 in a week`s time....all muslim fella`s.....

that doesn`t raise anybody else`s hackles a bit?....

seems to me the obvious use would be to use them once...then throw them away to hide criminal activity....

3 separate incidences in a little over a week?...all muslim types?...

whoops....make that 4

http://kdka.com/topstories/local_story_226111705.html
.....

hmmm...well i checked ebay to see how much they went for....most of them were in the package and included more than 40 minutes.....the low end phones were going for around $10......
i don't know why anyone would pay more than $20 for a phone not in the package with 40 minutes......

what, then, is the answer?....it could be money laundering to obfuscate the source funds for a major domestic terror attack, it could be the batteries, it could be the bare phones.

but there's no rational reason to pay retail for cheap cell phones and then strip them of the batteries, packaging and chargers.

there is definitely something going on here, but what is the question.....these guys are all over the place, and they are traveling far from home to purchase retail cell phones and strip them.....

it could be a red herring.....or it could be something we have no clue about....some of these batteries have very nasty characteristics.....

watch your asses,guys...

funny that you need to produce photo i.d. to buy ONE stinking box of sudafed, but apparently you can buy thousands of cell phones no questions asked .....lol

the part about seperating the batteries from the phones from the chargers is so wierd, it's hard to know what they have in mind....

but, cell phone batteries are extremely high in energy density, and they may be part of the picture.....

and maybe i`m wrong,but i think i recall that
one of the spanish train bombers the owner or manager of a cell phone store?.....what's with the cell phones?

09/11/2006.....5 year anniversary bash?

there is no normal reason that 3 20 year old guys from texas go all the way to michigan to buy 1000 cell phones...or why michigan guys had to go to iowa to get theirs....

if we can think of these questions, let`s hope that chimpy and the boys can thin it through...

any child-douchebag looking to "get rich" on the ridiculously slim margin of reselling a cheap-ass phone isn't going on a multi-state road-trip at $3/gal to make his purchases.....

this is beyond bizarre...

i suspect(hope)i am thinking about it too hard.....i'm not a great golfer either. .....

but,really...what is it with these cnn whistleblower terrorism suggestions i`ve been seeing on a regular basis?.....saw"the least guarded border" the other day..... "hey jihadis, you can walk right in, just go here". ...lol

today I saw them show how you can put hydrogen-peroxide type stuff in your carry-on to avoid x-ray detection....

next, they`ll show us how you can store all these liquid bombs in breast implants, or maybe they will tell the world the names of mexican doctors who offer to surgically implant all these exploding liquids into infants.....

they`re suggestng to terrorists about using private aircraft, private aircraft pilots, and private aircraft airports.... obscene....

"golly, nobody checks your luggage when you fly on private planes, even if it contains explosives!"..

and i remember the suggestion just after 9/11 about forcing poison into your home's tap to poison your community's water....

wolf blitzer....."i'm just curious.....as a kid, did you ever short the positive and negative terminals of a battery to see what happened?""""....

lol...i made that one up...

seriously,though,is all that necessary?

Cell Phones catching up to drunk drivers for cause of traffic accidents. Soon Law will be coming. Not allowed in car must stay in trunk till you arrive where your going. Is it also true number 1000 is now down to like 300?

There's nothing nefarious going on here. Just a little arbitrage going on. You buy a ton of phones from Wal-Mart and then resell them through little independent wireless stores for more money. Walmart is cheap and it allows them to get around having to do extensive credit checks for every potential customer. There's a bunch of these independent wireless stores here in L.A.

I do find it funny how conspiratorial some folks get over stuff like this. I mean, real Islamic jihadists are not going to be stupid enough to make such an attention-grabbing move. It is a good way to get the usual (racist) suspects riled up, though.

yeah, let's just assume this group of nice young muhammadans is trying buy 1000 phones to resell at their local wireless store. I'm sure they couldn't get a better deal from their wholesaler? :142smilie I also know that anytime I buy something to resell, I immediately cut it out of the manufacturers packaging and throw it into a large community box. :142smilie I've also never read of "real Islamic jihadists" doing anything that was attention-grabbing or stupid. :142smilie

C'mon, SixFive. Islamic jihadists do things that are attention-grabbing and stupid when they attack civilians. They aren't going to attract unnecessary attention before an attack.

Clearly you haven't been to these shady independent wireless stores. They can't sell the phones in the original packaging because that would make it obvious that they are reselling phones from Wal-Mart. If they cut them out of the packaging that creates plausible deniability.

Also, independent wireless stores cannot get a better deal from a wholesaler because -- as I mentioned earlier -- the whole point is to sell these phones without requiring credit checks and such.

Seriously, anyone who is wrapped up in this imaginary plot is cordially invited to check out one of these shady independent wireless stores. Not only can they get that stolen cell phone activated or GSM phone unlocked, they also offer phones like these that allow you to get wireless service without any accountability.

I'm not wrapped up in any plot, but I did find your post and explanation for their behavior laughable. :142smilie

Here's my thinking. I always try to see the good in people and look on the bright side; you know be an optimist. The one exception to that rule involves 'middle eastern dudes' where my rule changes to better safe than sorry. I feel this way because of their past behavior. If the Japanese were still making banzai attacks and flying with the "divine wind", then I would feel the same about them. However, they stopped doing that chit in 1945, so I like them just fine. After there's a period of about 60 years without jihadist activity, suicides, and pussy random killings of innocent women and children, then I'll feel the same about them and invite them to dine with me at my house in the trailer park.

Has anybody heard any more about this story? What's been the outcome in the last few days? Were they exonerated? Were they incarcerated? Thanks.

sure..it`s harmless....and they traveled from texas to wisconsin to purchase them just for the day-trip.... at $3+ per gallon....

i cited 4 different groups of muslim men doing this....

how much does it cost to purchase 1000 cell phones?.....that`s a decent amount of jack for high school dudes...i can tell you that i had no way of getting my hands on a cool 10 or twenty grand when i was in my teens and early twenties....

btw,why aren`t the brothers into this if it`s so lucrative?...

in an alternate universe, the bottom of this cell phone buying mystery would be unearthed in 15 minutes using only an interpreter, sturdy chair, 1/2 roll of duct tape, and a dremel ™ w/ the fancy expansion pack.....

and i`m only half kidding...

I haven't followed the story very closely, so I don't know whether the charges have been dropped yet.

I did think of one other thing that supports the idea that they are not Islamic jihadists planning an attack. I read that they were found with phones in one pile and batteries, packaging, chargers and such in another pile. If they were actually going to use the phones themselves to detonate explosives, then why would they remove the batteries from the phones?

Also, I have to say the article I read was hilarious because you have local podunk law enforcement officers saying things like, "These phones could be used to detonate bombs on airplanes."

HOW THE HELL WOULD BARNEY PFIFE KNOW? First of all, tracphones need a connection to a cell phone tower so once you reach a certain altitude getting a signal would be impossible. Secondly, are we expected to believe that some local LEO has experience rigging bombs that explode from a phone call? What a maroon.

FYI, after the first attack on the WTC (the garage attack) the vin from the bombers van was traced back to the Ryder truck agency in Newark. The perp rented the van using his personal Visa card.

This isn't hearsay or speculation, I worked recovery there.

Renting a van is an ordinary activity. Buying a few hundred prepaid mobile phones is odd. My point is that when someone plans to commit a crime, they try to avoid doing odd things so that they don't attract attention before the crime.
