For you baseball fans, here's a question for you. The answer can be easily researched if you are bored.

Name the 5 men since 1902 who could have made the claim "winningest pitcher alive". Also, put them in order that they would have made the claim.

Let me clarify the question some since it always seems to cause some confusion. I will give you the 5th and most current man - Roger Clemens.

There are only 2 ways he will lose this title. One, if Roger Clemens dies. Then someone else will become the winningest pitcher alive. Two, if while still living, someone passes Roger's win total.

So, since 1902 name the 4 players before Clemens that would have made this claim.

Shamrock is closest so far....

1. Cy Young
2.
3. Warren Spahn
4. Steve Carlton
5. Roger Clemens

Interesting note....collectively Cy Young and Warren Spahn held the claim for about 100 years.

Just missing the man who held it briefly between the time of Cy Young's death around 1955 and Warren Spahn's 300th win.......and I just gave you a huge hint.

Walter Johnson?

He's a good guess, but he died about 9 year before Cy Young.

Cy Young died in 1955 and with 300 wins, Lefty Grove became the winningest pitcher alive. Even though he lived till about the mid-1970s I believe, he lost the claim around 1961 when Warren Spahn passed his 300 win total.

So the 5 pitcher are....

1. Cy Young
2. Lefty Grove
3. Warren Spahn
4. Steve Carlton
5. Roger Clemens
