Fellow Madjackers:

Friends, foes, and others who don't give a rats ass. I'm in a 10 team, flex (tight end not required) regular scoring (1pt = 10 yds rushing; 1pt = 30 yds passing; 6pts = td ) fanstasy league with its draft monday night. I can start 3 running backs. I pick 6th.

Obviously the big 3 will be gone. I'm avoiding Portis like I would Dr. Freeze in the operating room. I'm thinking I will be able to choose from the following 2nd tier RB's:

S. Jackson
R. Brown
E. James
C. Williams
R. Johnson

Tiki will probably be gone 4th. Manning will be available but I never draft qbs no matter how good they are in the 1st round. Who do you think I shoud draft. Any of the above or some one else.

Any thoughts and reasons will be appreciated. Especially consider we have playoffs weeks 14-16. So a weak schedule during those 3 weeks is a plus.

hi eddie..

i don't know anything about fantasy football, as far as rules or points are concrened, but i think i'm up on football.

i saw in another post that you're thinking of taking edge james from the cards.....i wouldn't. until proven otherwise, the cards have a very questionable offensive line & think he will have trouble producing big numbers,at least in the beginning of the year....

i like the other backs that you listed & think jackson, brown, & williams are about equal ...but who is r. johnson ?

once i find out who he is....i'll give my opinion on the back who will be most productive....

btw...does catching passes also count or is it just running ?

good luck.

Look at taking Mike Bell from Denver in the middle rounds, this guy will be the Broncos starter for the year and will get all the short yardage TD carries.

AR- R.Johnson is Rudi Johnson of Eddie's hometown boys.

Eddie- I would also avoid Edge, at least in the first round. If he were somehow there on the way back (which he won't be), then I'd certainly take him. Six is a very, very shitty position this particular season. Your best hope is Portis going fifth after Barber. It would be tough to pass on Portis at 6 if he were still there. Of those listed, I'd go with either Brown or Jackson. As far as which of the two, it's really a tossup.

Ar:

Who is R. Johnson!!!!!!

Who is R. Johnson!!!!!!

Holy Schneikees, Batman. R. Johnson is non other than Rudi Johnson, the greatest Bengal running back since Boobie Clark. We here in Cincinnati haven't been so excited about anything since Pete Rose shoved Dave Palone.

C'mon AR for being as old as you are, you should know your Johnsons by now. I realize you've done your share of bowls in the past, but not all of them brain cells are necrotic.

Seriously, I realize the Cards O line has been likened to the Maginot line in WWII, and thats the reason why Edge may slip out of the top 10. Arizona may be playing from behind and therefore not running the ball a whole lot.

Receiving yards counts the same as rushing yards. Thats is 10 yds = 1pt. So a back who catchs passes out of the backfield (ie Ladainian) has added value.

Hedman, I've been looking at M. Bell but Shanahan scares the living daylights out of me. One week it seems like its Tatum, then I hear its Mike Bell, then I hear old whats his name is making a come back. I just don't know with Shanahan.

Thanks for the advice.

portis is hurt..that is why wash. made the trade for duckett....

eddie, my friend.....of course i know my johnson's...i've been around & have seen my share of johnsons...but that's a story for another day.....

i'm a steven jackson fan....i think he will blossom this year under his new coach... i would go with either johnson or jackson.

good luck & may all of your fantasies come true..

BJ:

For the reasons AR stated, I'm hesitant to take Portis in the 1st. If the Skins get the ball inside the 10, I think Gibbs will put Duckett in for all the goaline carries. He won't chance Portis reinjuring a seperated shoulder on a goaline carry when all the defenses hit harder. So Portis will lose a lot of td's this year IM (not so) HO.

Eddie, I agree with you and the Shanarat scare and how he mixes and uses at least 2 backs, however as a Donkeys season ticket holder, I disagree here, Shanahan's ego and success at drafting RBs will come into play and he will give this undrafted gem that HE found every chance to work, just like he did Olandis Gary. If Mike Bell keeps playing like he has this preseason he will get a majority of the carries. Shanahan is also not that big on Tatum Bell, hell he has him covering kick offs in the second half of preseason games, the same way Mike Anderson was 2 years ago when he got hurt which made room for Rubeun Droughns.

Thanks Hedman, I'll look for M. Bell as a sleeper pick. As a Broncos homer, how much value should i put on Droughns in Cleveland? I realize you probably aren't following him anymore, but what did you think of him when he was in Denver? If Droughns and Bell were available on your draft board, who would you take?

As a Bronco Homer, you could tell that from my post :mj07: , I would take Bell, because of the Broncos running game, and the fact that Clevelands offense and offensive line this year will be below average. The injury to Bently really hurt this unit, however with William Green as the back up Droughns is going to get a majority of the carries and will get all the gimme TDs, which will be few and far between. I look for Mike Bell to average around 15-20 carries and 75-100 yards a game and then the possiblity of blowing up into a Portis type year or even reaching a Davis type year is worth the value pick. This guy has the potential to be a top 10 pick next year if everything works right, or he could be the next "Q", damn it i am a homer, hope this helped. :142smilie

Issues are Droughns relatively proven, no real back-up threat, weaker o-line and worse team vs. Bell unproven, some back-up threat, good o-line and better team.

I am very into fantasy football and here is how I have the following mid-tier RBs ranked.

S. Jackson
R. Brown
L. Jordan
Rudi
Edge
Cadillac

I really dont like either James or Rudi this year, but I had to throw them above Cadillac... Id say you cant go wrong with the top 3 on the list.

Heddie:

You can start laughing now because I have been a season ticket holder for my striped heros since 1984. Yes, I've dumped tens of thousands of dollars into Mike Browns pockets so he can buy a new Lumina every 15 years while fielding a perennially losing team for this city until last year.

Anyway, I do have some feel for my beloved, albeit mostly jail bound, Bengals. Carson, Chad, TJ and Chris Henry are very much in sync. However, this year, they will not be catching anyone off guard plus they have I beleive the toughest schedule in the NFL.

Realistic Bengals fans are hoping for 9-7. Marvin, always a defensive guy first has improved the defense with Sam Adams. Odell Thurmann has a 4game substance abuse suspension (at the 1st exhibition game his jerseys were selling at Paul Brown Stadium for 1/2 off) I think Marvin may slow it down a bit this year and count on the defense a bit more. Last year it was big play defense. I don't think so this year as I think they will be more reliable on stoppin the run.

What does this mean. I think they will spread the ball around to TJ, Chad, Chris Henry pretty evenly. Henry has been the model citizen in pre-season and has looked great on the field. Despite the schedule, Chad, in my view, is a top tier receiver along with S. Smith. TJ is a good #2 who I would equate with a Lee Evans.

Tommy Paine:

I like your line up. I'm not sure about LaMont that high because of the stiff he has at quarterback. Don't you think defenses will start stacking the middle because Brooks will have the same success rate with his receivers that Penguinfan has with females.

Spurs, that seems to be the prevailing opinion and thats why Edge stock continues to drop.

Thanks for everyones views.
