This was interesting:

Don Pister, manager of public relations for the Ontario Lottery Gaming Corp. that owns Casino Windsor, said gamblers will be required to place three bets at a time.

So you can't just put $110 down on one team, you need to find 2 more bets you want to place?

I liked this part the best...

"In the U.S., outside of Nevada, the industry doesn't really exist," Pollock said.

.... yeah right, at least not legally

I saw it opens at 11am on weekends, seems kind of late, seeing on Saturday games start at noon.

I am sure I will be over there within the next few weeks.

Gents,

Being from Windsor, I am kind of surprised with the play this article is getting in Michigan and across the Midwest.

As IE mentioned, the province of Ontario has had proline sports wagering for over 10 years now. Essentially what it allows bettors to do is to make parlay cards on sporting events. As mentioned in the Detroit News article you have to bet on a minimum of 3 games.....so your parlay card will contain at minimum 3 games.

So if you want to bet on 1 event, you can't do it. This lottery is run by the provincial government and as you can only imagine since they only allow parlays, it is a huge cash cow for them.

I haven't played Proline in years. It is commonplace at corner stores and lottery terminals across the province. Needless to say, this lounge is essentially a sports bar within the Casino where someone can also bet on a proline ticket.

This place might turn out to be a decent place to watch some games, but people (Americans in particular) are going to be mighty disappointed when they realize this isn't your "normal" sportsbook and more or less a big waste of time for them.

just a grab cash cow for provincal gov't.

might get some soft lines on the point-spread format but you only get back 1:1 on 2 team wager.....

rather buy my tickets at corner store and stay at my fav watering hole:)

Proline blows. Absolutely blows. If they offer up the same odds Proline does then believe me, there is no point, save the gas money and stay home.

Anyone want to get paid 4:1 for hitting a 3-teamer or 8:1 for a 4-teamer ATS? That's what our generous government gives the suckers who play it.

Kansas City area for who knows how long....
don't forget Oregon lottery's NFL parlay betting!

don't forget Oregon lottery's NFL parlay betting!

Oregon State lottery has offered, for years, parlay bets on NFL games. 3 team minimum.

the parlay cards listed teams by name of city---never mentioned the team names to avoid trademark infringement on NFL.

They did offer NBA too, but NBA objected heavily and sued. OR lottery dropped NBA, mainly 'cause it didn't bring in much money.

the NFL parlays bring in tons of money, but objections continued from NBA and others. So new bill was signed last year to end the state sponsored sportsbetting after this NFL season and NCAA promptly rewarded Oregon with regional games for NCAA BB finals in 2009.

oh, and 3-way pays 5-1, 4 way better at 10-1. Prize above 4 way is pari-mutuel payout. It's against the line, and lines are set Wed. If any significant injury/probable might be in store, line not offered. So you do see occasional Wednesday line looking very juicy by Sat, but it must be in atleast 3 teamer...
