North Texas vs Texas..Army-Ark St....

This thread will take a few days to complete.I'll add as i go on.
Texas -41 over[ my alma mater] North Texas ******

Last time NT went to Austin 2 yrs ago the score was 65-0.And NT was 7-4 and went to a Bowl.NT last yr went 2-9 and they are hurt'in big time this week vs Texas.
Lets break down NT team this yr.
They have no QB. Meagher was the favorite but he didn't play spring ball and got clocked in the head a few weeks ago.Concussions,seeing burnt orange in his sleep,etc. He's out.Phillips beat out juco Wilson and was named today as the starter.Niether one can throw the ball over 15 yds.Only short passes.Quinn NT's top WR who has lead the Mean Green the past 3 yrs and a sun belt all conf player will have 5 yd pass receptions and then he has to run the ball.He's tough...but 2 weeks ago he broke his wrist and had pins put in.He hasn't practiced yet but will try tomr.

So far..we have no QB and there best WR w/ a pin and might not play..
Jamario Thomas who led the nation in rushing 2 yrs ago is back...but.. he still has hamstring problems and is not 100%. In practice he has played a little with very little contack.No one knows about Jo-Mo..
OL is back but they are terrible.One of the worst in the country.Lyr with Cobbs and Jo-Mo both leading the nation in rushing in 2003 and 2004 they couldn't open up holes or pass block.NT offense was one of the worst avg 14 pts a game.
When they played out of the Sun conf they lost to Tulsa 54-2,Kansas St 54-7 and LSU 56-3.

There defense vs Sun teams was fine. But vs the better teams they couldn't stop anybody.NT returns 6 players on defense.3 of 4 DB's are new and one saftey has been just coverted to CB. They are all inexperinced.
Linebackers are there only real strength but...there best linebacker Graves who is a Butkus canidate is out with a knee injury.
DL is avg with no pass rush.
Last week in the final scrimmage the "scout" team outplayed the starters on numerous plays.Scout team also scored 2 or 3 TD's on special teams on punt and kickoff or fumble recoveries.
Mean Green has some big time problems going into Texas..
No Qb's,top RB hurting. Top WR might not play,top def player out,3 newbies playing in the def backfield,big time coverage problems on special teams,OL that cannot protect or open up holes,etc,etc.
Will come back and talk about Texas later...
This game has blowout all over it.NT will not score.If they do it will be 2,3 or 7 pts.

My heart is with Texas. Colt Mcoy has been great in practice. He ain't Vince (yet?). Texas D will shut your Mean Green down, but unless they score 35 by half, they may not cover. Snead has not fared well in practice,and we should see him midway though the third quarter. The only points UT scores from that point will be by the defense. This game is probably capped about right, and too tough for me to play. That said, good luck-hope you cover easily.

Texas over North Texas [cont]

Enough About NT.Texas is ranked 3rd in the preseasons.Lets take Young out for a second and talk defense.There loaded on defense ,almost as good and maybe better then last yr.Texas defense lyr did give up big yardage games vs TT,OU,etc plus 574 yds vs USC.But vs the La-Lafs,Rice,Baylors,etc those teams scored 3,10,and 0. And lest not forget the B-12 championship game vs Colorado.The score was 70-3.
The UT def will have no trouble stopping an offense that has a poor OL,new Qb who can't throw.Everyone vs NT put 7 or 8 guys in the line knowing they couldn't pass.NT couldn't score vs Sun teams let alone B-12 teams.
Texas defense will hold NT to under 150-160 total yds.Even the Texas 2nd team in the 2nd half.NT has one player. Jo-mo..and he's still hurting.once these game gets out of hand Jo-mo will be benched for next weeks Smoo game.
Texas offense w/o Young will still be potent.McCoy looks great.Snead i don't know much about.McCoy has an arm and is mobile in the pocket.I watched his HS video hi-lites the other nite and he sure looked good.He threw for 9,300 yds and 116 TD's in HS.
OL of Texas is huge with All Amer. Blalock at 6'4 and 330.RB's with Young starting but Charles is the stud.Thats the next Cedric..
WR is the best in yrs with Pittman and 6'5 Sweed.Tweddie is the 6'5 TE..
Enough...NT doesn't have the players or man power to stop this.NT's 3-4 defense is in trouble. Throw in the special teams and blocked punts .Texas will score a TD or two on punts,returns or defense.If NT's scout team scored a few on there own defense so will UT.
NT was one of the worst defensive teams in the country lyr and haven't improved at all.
Texas has Ohio St next week so there will be a lot of subbing in the 2nd half.But the Longhorns 2nd teamers are so much better then NT's 1st teamers.Plus NT has a huge game with Smoo next week.

Any friendship between Mack Brown and Darrell Dickey?

Buddy ,
the relationship is with Darrell Royal and Darrell Dickeys father who was a HS coach.Darrell Dickey is named after Darrell Royal.
In 2004 Mack beat Dickey 65-0. I don't think he would run up the score on purpose.It's just a mismatch.I know -41 scores favor the dogs big time but not in the case of North Texas.
In Texas's last 3 home openers they beat la-laf lyr 60-3 and the line was -40.In 2005 it was 65-0 vs North Texas and the line was -26.And in 2004 they beat New Mex St 66-7 and the line was -29.

NT has no qb's.Top Rb Jamario Thomas still has suspect hamstring problems.Top WR Quinn had a pin put in wrist last week but will try to play.NT OL is terrible.There all back and thats even worse. Lyr they couldn't open any holes or pass block.Avg last yr. in NCAA in offense and scoring 14 pts a game.
Defense was terrible. esp out of the sun Conf games.Scores of 54-2,54-7 and 56-3 vs the big boys of Tulsa,K-state and LSU.Two yrs ago they opened vs Texas 65-0.That will be the same store today.
Top defensive player Graves is out with a knee injury.They have 3 new DB's starting.Linebackers are small and DL is avg with no possible pass rush vs Texas.NT's scout team scored 3 td's on No 1 defense in punt returns and fumble recoveries.
NT is hurting and will not score today. maybe 2 pts or 3. Maybe a late td in the 4th qrt vs Texas's 3 rd string.
NT has Smoo next week.Texas will sub early but NT will also sub for next weeks rival game.
Texas is loaded. Defense will stop an amemic NT offense.Mccoy and co will dominate with there big WR's and Rb's.
This is a 55-0,65-3,etc score.Texas's 2nd team is better then NT's 1st.

Ark St +5.5 over Army *
I really liked Ark St a lot in this game until there top RB got hurt last week.Both teams have new Qb's,new Rb's.Army Qb Pevoto has really looked good in practice.He's 6'5 with an arm. He's very mobile and all spring Army worked on option.so today ross will come out with a lot of options plays.But Pevoto has only a few snaps of experince.OL is back from lyr's 38-10 whipping of Ark at.Army Rb's are all new and all midgets.McMahand is there star back and he's 5'6 and 170.Ross has done a great job with the defense.There 3-4 caused big time problems for teams lyr.But they have 2 new cornerbacks that have never started a game.Armys defense ranked 37 and lyr held Ark St to 10 pts.
Ark St also has a new Qb and new RB's.There defense has some solid players and one top player returning from 2 yrs ago.Army is 0-21 in sept,can't win on the road.I'll take Ark St at home to keep this close and possibly beat army str up.Way to many question marks on both teams with new people playing all key positions.

Navy -11 over ECU ****
ECU has an explosive offense with Pinkney at Qb and probaly one of the best WR's in the nation in Allison.Jackson at Rb isn't bad.But ECU lost most of its OL.On defense ECU line is solid with hand and co but they have all new Lb's.And only good Lb's can stop or slow down option attacks.
navy has a new Qb but is loaded with backs.They will dominate esp in the 2nd half vs ECU poor run defense. Lyr ECU's biggest problem was stopping the run. so today they have to stop one of the top rushing teams in the nation.plus the weather with wet fields and rain will make it tougher to stop johnson's offense.
ECU should score a few Td's vs the smaller navy defense and has had weeks to prepare against the option but Navy keeps coming at you and there ground attack should have a field day.

Rutgers +5 over North car **
RU has the 2 best tandem running backs in the nation.Leonard is unreal.Possible Heisman.But Rice is really better then him. Former NY state player of the Yr.RU has solid WR esp Tucker and a great TE in Harris[ NFL 1st rounder]. problem is a rookie Qb in Teel. But he has looked good.
Def is a big question mark for RU. Not much size and experince.New DE's etc. Very athletic all over but not battle tested. RU must outscore teams in order to win.They also have a good punter and Pk's and one of the best returners in the nation in Foster.
NC has some Qb's battles going on . They also have some great sp teams that can score.At home lyr they beat Utah,UVA,and BC.Home record Ats is poor.I think NC will score on RU defense but RU 's offense keeps this close and could come up with a road win..

USC - 8 over Ark ***
Don't think this game is close at all. USC to much speed,to athletic,to may greyhounds at key postions.W/O top hog Rb out this is a USC 2 td win.

Like the Texas play.. the green maching will not move the ball, the front 7 of texas is extremely quick and strong and if you shut down NT running game the team panics. It was a pass for me because I am not sure what to expect with the freshman texas QB. I think he'll be productive but not sure how well he handles the first game jitters.

I coattailed you on your Texas play because your reasoning was solid and it seemed like Davis vs Goliath to me. I'm mainly concentrating on the NFL this season, so I'll be coattailing some of the forums plays in College and your Texas play was my favorite.
