Season Stats: 4-5 (-1.50 units)
I laid off Florida State at Miami, taking the Canes. If UM had scored again before the half, the final score would have been much, much different.
FLORIDA STATE -30 over Troy (1 unit)
I was surprised this line came in so low. I'm guessing it is a reaction at FSU's offensive apparent ineptitude vs. Miami, coupled with the fact that it will be a hangover game on a short week. Still, FSU should cover this easily.
First off, Troy is not good. Not by any stretch of the imagination. Multiple preseason publications put them in the bottom 10 of the I-A rankings. The Trojans lost their top running back, and are trying to improve on last year's total of SIX passing TDs. Yeah, six. For the whole season. Defense has usually been the hallmark of Troy, but they are in the process of replacing 7 of last year's starters.
FSU, while happy with the win Monday, knows they need to really focus on this week. It's the only tuneup they get before Clemson comes into town next Saturday night. Don't be surprised if they get ahead, and continue to let Xavier Lee air it out a little bit. Also, the offense is going to come out full of piss and vinegar where they will try to atone for Monday's showing.
It's the first home game of the year, a night home game, and a national tv game (granted it's the 6pm espn2 game). I see it being very similar to last year's FSU vs. Citadel game. It was also a sandwich home game (also the espn2 night game) in between a short week after Miami and a road trip to BC. Against the Citadel last year, FSU rolled 62-10. The result will be very similar. Look for the Noles to play a lot of freshmen and for them to try and make a splash in their first real playing time. FSU may not get to 62, but I would be very surprised if Troy puts any more than 10 points up.
