knew the texas/osu result would inflate this line but -- wow -- expected 24.5 or 25 and pinny opens at 30.

this one has troy/fsu written all over it as far as the chalk being massively overpriced after winning outright as a dog in a huge gm a week ago.

... and will tressel run it up on a former assistant from his championship staff? gotta say doubtful on that one.

I knew after the game last night that this would be at least a small play for me because I figured the line would be big time inflated. Great point about the asst coach too.

I laughed at the opening # at Cris. The sharps got on it as well. Cris put up 34 & was quickly down to 30.

even though psu got exposed a bit by notre dame, they still are a formidable enough foe to induce a lookahead from ohio state here as well. doesnt hurt that the nits gave osu one of their two losses last year.

just dont see tressel running it up on dantonio. they go back to tressel's days at youngstown state and its unlikely he'll be out to bury the cats here. the game plan should be textbook tressel -- get a lead early, play good defense, and then manage the game in the mid-3rd and 4th quarter.

obviously osu can still cover even with a conservative game plan. if a team is just physically overmatched, sometimes a coach cant help but win by 40+. but cincy's defense is solid despite getting beat on a few jump balls against pitt.

Cincy wont score.

I doubt OSU runs it up up but watch they will score on a punt return and they will have a defensive TD somewhere in the game. They cover easy...

Conceptually, I agree, gman, however, I also agree with ageecee.

As little faith I have in Ohio State defense......I do not believe they get in double digits in this game. Ohio State can score 40 points in their sleep against this club, so it is close.

It is a no-play for me.......I dont see this game falling outside a 5 point range either way of the posted line.

Taoist, I follow Texas about as close as anybody. I don't have concrete stats in front of me, but historically Texas has come back strong off of a loss under Mack Brown. However, Rice has been very respectful in their two losses to Houston and UCLA.

Throw in the fact of Major Applewhite as Rice's OC and his familiarity with Greg Davis' schemes, which he will communicate to the Rice DC, which will help in having a decent handle on Texas' tendenancies. All of this being said, the UT/Rice game will be a no play for me.

dont make too much of toledo's loss at western last week. take nothing away from wmu -- they took it to the rockets and kicked their ass. but toledo stopped themselves. its not often that you have a 100 yard rusher .... outgain a team in total yards ... hold them to 11 first downs ... and lose 31-10. but cochran was sacked 4 times, threw 2 interceptions, and had one of those interceptions go back 92-yards for a TD (at the time, it was late in the 3rd quarter, toledo was down 14-10, and they had it in the wmu redzone)

weasel-
that might be the toughest of the mac games this week. bgfalcon likes the zips and thats good enough reason to give them a look as his feel for the mac is as good as anyones. personally, i think this is a cmu-or-nothin kind of game. but i prefer nothin, simply because the chips still have question marks at quarterback (something the zips certainly dont have to worry about). if theres one thing you can count on with the university of akron is thats they will win games they have no business winning.... and then lose games they have no business losing. it should be noted that they struggled mightily in buffalo last year and lost outright at ball state so laying points to a decent cmu team is something id rather not be a part of. i think cmu is going to be much better in the 2h of the season than they are right now, so perhaps an anti-chips play could be profitable. but this is normally the kind of game akron struggles with, even though theyre the better team. also, cmu beat akron in akron as a DD dog last year and sneed had a very big game.

re: the clowns -- they were bad. very bad. but you are dead on. winslow is going to be an absolute monster. there is no way to guard him. the fade that he almost caught for a TD with one hand was ridiculous. he will be the best tight end in the nfl in 2 or 3 years. the problem is that they have nobody other than edwards that has star potential. and thats going to hurt them. sadly, theyre a long ways away. but winslow is the best player the browns have had since coming back in 99 and he's doing it at about 80%

For all hardcore longhorn fans, did Greg Davis run the same kind of offense he did more than 3 years ago? Because I don't ever remember Texas running as many run plays. And they are very unique looking run plays too, so I would think I would remember them. I dont know, you guys tell me.

sun:

i remember 2 years ago we were talking about how the texans were light years ahead of the browns in terms of progress as an expansion franchise. now it seems like houston is stagnant, if not regressing. what the hell is going on?

btw- baylor is much improved but im not ready to say theyre better than colorado quite yet. line on a neutral field would have to be colorado (-4) or (-4.5). not saying much, but not convinced the cupboard is bare for hawkins.

As for the Texans: Charley Casserley. And then an idiot like Kubiak. My wife can better evaluate talent.

As for Baylor, they play at Colorado on October 7. I presume you will give me 8/9 points in the dark.....

in regard to colorado, the cupboard is not bare, but it may be soon. this program is in such disarray, i don't think it would matter who you brought in there to coach. i don't think hawkins really knew what he was up against, as the deck is stacked against the football team at cu right now, to say the least. the administration, not to mention the community itself, would do away with the football program if they could. this team packed it in after losing to iowa state last year, and they haven't shown any signs of life this year. i honestly think that they are the worst team in the big 12 right now, and i challenge anyone to show me a game on their schedule that they should be a 7 point chalk.

gl, gman, you always have threads worth reading.

wcb, I did not realize the amount of negativity surrounding the Colorado football squad. Is sentiment apathy or antipathy?

CU has real problems on offense, for sure. Hawkins is a fantastic coach but this start to his inaugural season does not portend well for '06.

It was 27-6 OSU two years ago with the spread 14 and I believe that was the first year for Dantonio at Cincy. If I remember that game coulda been a lot worse, but Tressel didn't want to embarrass his former mate......I see same thing here possibly.....that's a ton of points!!!
