to the red hot chilli peppers in cold temperatures.

it was reported by the wash. post that the cia tortured one of the captured terrorist thugs by loudly playing music by the red hot chilli peppers in a cold room. and that the thug squealed like a pig because couldn't take it anymore.

and what's funnier than that is that some people in our country have objected to that because they consider it torture.

i heard somebody on oreilly from a human rights explain her case...& actually felt sorry for her because she didn't realize how foolish she sounded.

there are alot of people who don't realize that this war on terrorism is like a street fight. no matter how the u.s. treats these thugs, the terrorists will still chop off their prisoner's heads or just plain execute them.

there are no rules in a street fight & we will win this war as soon as people realize this....

Exactly! Which is why you don't get into a street fight with 26 million people halfway around the world! :nono: I'm not sure realizing it will help end the problem - usually assessing the situation before you get into the mess is the best way to go.

Sorry...couldn't help myself... :mj07:

p.s. I object to torture - not sure torture is really a street fighting tactic...?

h.h....it`s also considered torture...and an indignity...to have a woman interrogate them......that would be unclean....

i wonder if the feminists will get their panties in a bunch over that little nugget?

when i refer to this fight as a street fight....i meant that there are no rules. it doesn't make sense to me that the u.s. & it's allies follow rules while the thugs don't.

most sensible people are against the torture where the captive's fingernails are ripped away, or other similar things....but listening to rock music in cold temperatures are ridiculous to be thought of as torture....

Depending on how cold the room was, how loud the music was, and how long those being questioned were held in the room, it COULD be torture. I am a cold-blooded creature, and if you put me in a room of even 55-60 degrees and played some country music loudly for days on end, it would be torturous to me. Not what we traditionally think of torture, but our govt has a way of coming up with new tactics to avoid the rules. Did the article have any specifics?

and GW - Is it not OK to be culturally sensitive to prisoners? I am not a feminist and most of their views bug the shit out of me, especially when they get upset over stupid things like you pointed out. Personally, I wouldn't mind living in a highly patriarchal society - one where I don't have to work and vote and be responsible. I'll sit at home and cook my man a nice meal and serve him sexually if that's all I have to do. Sounds like a nice life. TY. :SIB

mccain/warner/graham and collins....sheesh....and the supreme court?.......scares me to death...

this is what you get when lawyers are making decisions in a war...amazing...

this is all a big legal battle, never mind that the bad guys act as judge and jury and only hand out death sentences with no appeals process....

they are actually giving these detainees(monsters) that are over 50 colonoscopies!!... i`m not kidding...

this is it in a nutshell...do you view this as a war, and if so,should it be fought using every tool in the box and prosecuted to a successful conclusion?...

if not, then when that big dark smoke cloud appears over the n.y.c. skyline(again)i will remind everyone to show restraint and get some lawyers to prosecute those who carried out the act....

and i would caution everyone to not resort to using military force since that would only make it worse.....

incredible.....and the geneva conventions thing....i`ll never understand the geneva conventions deal...it doesn`t make sense....

applying geneva convention protections to these terrorists undermines the primary reason for these conventions(protection of civilians)....they now will pay no penalty for their disregard for the rules of war, thanks to scotus.....

i`ll state it here...i respect mccain`s service..i really want to like the guy........but,i either won`t vote...or i`ll vote fot the democrat(unless it`s gore/feingold/kerry or dean)...

i don`t trust mccain...

"it doesn't make sense to me that the u.s. & it's allies follow rules while the thugs don't."

yeah, lets lower ourselves to the lowest common denominator. Lets adopt the tactics of our enemy and start beheading the infidels. We can show it nightly on Fox. While we are at it, lets stop letting our women show their faces in public, vote, drive, etc....

solid logic. The neocon assclowns are going to destroy what America has stood for throughout the world for hundreds of years in the blink of an eye. Long live Bush and the neofacists.

If they showed it on any other news channel nobody would watch it. Way to over dramatize what AR is trying to point out.

How about we just give the prisoners a warm bath and a five course meal. I'm sure that would work.

Wow - that is quite a strike! Am I really part of the "problem" - and if so, please define the problem. I do think realistically, and last I checked, our country believed "innocent until proven guilty", and we ratified (or whatever) the Geneva Conventions a LONG time ago, but this administration has changed those rules. That is not OK by me.

Should I post some stories of innocent people who were held for years at Guantanamo and subsequently released? Or maybe some stories about how torture is not an effective tool because often people break down and say what the torturers want to hear? Or maybe a personal story about someone I know from Ethiopia who was tortured during the Dergue period there (tortured by someone else I know, so I can give you both perspectives).

I was being somewhat facetious, because I don't think playing music is torture, but at the same time I did not read the article and don't know the details. Can you please post a link if you have it?

Sorry, torture sucks. That is realistic.

Al,

I didn't catch your outrage in my thread from yesterday about us not killing 190 terrorists lined up in a tight formation because they were at a cemetary.

But the music playing has you all wound up?

this is not your ordinary war...the enemy is not wearing uniforms..they wear whatever they can to gwt an edge.

the only way for this country & it's allies is to get into the gutter & fight the way the enemy is fighting.

we're talking about people who want to kill us

theoretical: "concerned primarily with theories or hypotheses"

you're worried about how our gov't. treats these people

realistical "aware or expressing awareness of things as they really are"

Really now... who is thinking realistically and who theoretically? You can't be absolutely certain that every person we are detaining or torturing WANTS to kill us, while the reality is that our government IS treating these people poorly...

I completely agree with these statements. But you have to realize that Iraqis are forced to fight the way they are because they do not have the advanced technology that we have, or maybe they don't have a uniform factory to make them uniforms.

We do have to use different tactics. I just don't believe these tactics include torture.

Torture is not effective and it is immoral.

Pretty much sums it up!

Jabberwocky - when people can't effectively prove their argument, I find they usually turn to name-calling and personal stabs. So you should not let it get to you and know obviously you got to them. :SIB
