I have had this debate several times about SNL (and movies being made today as well).

We'll use SNL only for sake of simplifying the discussion.

I feel that there have always been ups and downs since the first show aired of SNL. But I think people have very selective memory about how great the casts of old were. You only remember the great skits, so in people's minds they were always great.

We watch "SNL: The best of (fill in the blank)" and see an hour of really funny skits. Then, as the credits roll, we reminisce about days gone by when SNL was so much better than today.

Then we see a particularly bad episode with (fill in the year)'s current cast and once again reminisce. This conversation was going on when greats like Dana Carvey, Phil Hartman, Chris Rock, Adam Sandler, Chris Farley, and so on were presently on casts.

Is the current cast the best cast in the history of the show? No.

Should they pull the show? Are you ****ing nuts? This show is one of the best avenues of finding our comedic talent.

Now, if the industry wouldn't have ****ed Keenan Ivory Wayans out of In Living Color we would still have two great avenues.

My wife is a big fan of Mad TV, but I don't click with it most of the time.

I hate to sound like my parents but I know I'm going too so here goes.

Frankly, I don't think this show has been continously funny since the 70's. Post Belushi, Curtain, Chase, Morris, Neuman, Akroyd, Radner, Murray, etc, its been boring. There have been moments with Spade, the dead fat guy, Sandler and a few others, but generally rather stupid.

You can't beat the Coneheads, Todd Delamuca, Landshark, Weekend Update with Chevy Chase, Father Guido Sarduicci, Roseann Roseannadanna, Point-Counter Point with Akroyd & Curtain ("Jane, you ignorant slut"), Belushi as the Samurai, Emily Latilla, Fred Garvin, male prositute (akroyd) etc.

You can't touch that stuff with the current tripe they put on today. I dont want to sound like I was a nerd in college because I had quite a few hot babes that were hot after my tail in college because they knew I was going to be a wildly successful attorney, but we would turn the tv on at party's on saturday night while at UC to watch this show because it was so f'ing hillarious in the late 70's.

After is was over, then of course I would go back to tendering my gaggle of geese to the wee hours of Sunday morn.

You sound more like a middle-age guy comtemplating the "good-ole days", i.e. when you werent so old. :142smilie I should know, I do the same myself haha. I bet you preferred shows like All in the Family and Welcome Back Kotter too over the drivel you find on today's schedule. I know I did. Just busting your chops counselor. :)

Agent, for a change, I actually agree with you somewhat. The first couple seasons were my favorite but quickly lost interest over the next 20 years.

Kosar.....thanks for the laugh. Thats a great comment. :mj07:

Hi KD:

True. More middle aged. As Vyrus would say just one of those older guys from a small midwestern city. Body parts are getting a little too horizontal which were once quite vertical (if you know what I mean).

Actually, a Seinfeld guy myself. Maybe my way of handling mid life crisis. Well just set my fantasy lineup, going to get a bratwurst and mettwurst at Ocktoberfest on Fifth Street here in this small midwestern city which is hosting the second largest Oktoberfest celebration in the world next to Munich then watch my Bengali's pummel the hapless Brownski's (sorry Matthew).

A beautiful day in the Queen City. For those of you betting, just my two cents, whatever the spread.................... lay the number. Blow out.

Played golf yesterday at Four Bridges and talked to Cincinnati Bengal, David Pollack. Will be absolutely shocked if the Browns score double figures today. Maybe, if they are lucky, 10 points. Probably two field goals.

Bengals defense if for real this year. Will outshine the offense. Mark it down. The big Ed predicts Bengals in the Big Bowl because of their defense.
