let me first say that I did not bet on the game, so it didn't impact me one way or the other, but why did virginia not go for 2 when they scored in the 4th quarter?

Coaching decisions like this drive me nuts... you have not moved the ball the entire game, the only reason you scored was because a turnover. If you go for 2, you potentially make it a 2 score game, instead you kick the extra point and still need 3 scores.

i guess LV lines outweight the thinking part of the coaches

definitely true in some instances...I just dont think this time was one of them. I would guess that Groh was probably just happy that his team scored and took the XP because its something positive to build on. After the TD, had they gone for 2 and not gotten it, the positive would be tainted. Bad teams need all the positives they can get.

Now Tressel kicking that friggin 52 yd FG at the end of the Cincy/OSU game was clearly to cover the spread.

He got out his coaches hand book which says in that instance you kick the xp to remain within 3 scores.

jdp, I was at the Cincy/OSU game, and there seemed to be an awful lot of happy fans when OSU kicked the field goal to cover. Now obviously I didn't speak to all 105,000 fans, but I heard a lot of talk about the cover. But I seriously doubt Tressel was considering the spread. OSU needs as much work on its kicking game as possible.
