Just got back and REALLY appreciate ALL that it offers especially as I get older and hopefully wiser.
I remember when I was a testosterone filled younger person...how I had a ....say ....different more self-centered perspective.
Just wondering how many Madjackers value an organized religion and participate actively???
......OH,...I may even get more winners :mj07: only kidding.........
Hey, Have a GREAT DAY!

I don't believe in religion and have NEVER been to church for a service. I never have and never will

boy if i printed my thoughts on this subject this thread would never end. what did Jesse Ventura say. "church is a crutch for the weakminded" I use to have an Aunt that lied liked you wouldn't believe. She use to go to church two or three times a week i think to cleanse herself. Monday she was right back to lying and stealing.

Unfortnately some people think just because they go to church they'll be OK or that they are better than others. Couldn't be further from the truth. I know a lot of people who don't go to church but live out God's word through their actions in life. Life is a journey and your faith only makes things easier to deal with and understand sometimes the various why's of life, not that anyone has all the answers. I really need my church and the gift of faith has been one of my greatest blessings. But unless you actually go to church or have faith, you'll never understand because you've not experienced it. We all have been given free choice, what each of us does individually with that, is between God and that person, no one else has a right to judge another about their faith, whether strong or non-existent

I'm a recovering catholic...

the pedophile priests have really damaged my faith, especially being a correction officer and dealing with these scumbags everyday...

Their scammers an scumbags in all professions,It seems to be more so of the people with the gift of gab,Politicians,Salesmen,Priest,IMO,All have something to sell,But not all,Can't see you being surprised an losing your faith because of it,Its been an ez way out for some guys(religion)an has been going on for decades,Centuries,Any how I went to catholic school & church till my teens and haven't been since unless of a family matter and the book is still being written as far as i'm concerned about god,I do feel there is a basic good an evil in all of us,Even life after death but I don't need a priest or church to save me,We need to save ourselves by doing what you yourself feels what is right an wrong not what the other guy says,Stay strong,A good part of your life is around neg shit an must be hard not to take it with you,Sorry to ramble now it sounds like I have something to sell:mj07:

No disrespect to anyone, as I believe it is good for anyone that truly believes (I actually wish I could be so convicted about it as it would take away my fear of dying), but for me personally I do not believe and think it's the biggest sham in human history

As a gambling men I find it interesting that some dont believe in the existance of God......I believe it is summed up best by:

Belief is a wise wager. Granted that faith cannot be proved, what harm will come to you if you gamble on its truth and it proves false? If you gain, you gain all; if you lose, you lose nothing. Wager, then, without hesitation, that He exists.

If there are 2 subjects that I don't discuss with anyone except my closest of family and friends, it would be politics and religion.... Very touchy subjects with almost everyone.... Lines get drawn and most folks don't make the eraser available for those two subjects.... :nono:

The quote is refering to an afterlife...& belief in God doesnt cost a penny.

:com:

You can't just make yourself believe in something. It's not like I think, "You know what? I'm gonna show those religious folks... I'm gonna NOT believe in God!!!!"

Believe me, I've tried. But like it's not like there is a light switch to flip and suddenly be able to start believing in something that your mind questions.

I've known several agnostics (friends and family) who found religion during their darkest hours.....There are those who find themselves in terminal situations when denial becomes no longer an option, no longer convenient.....and thats good....so much better in my opinion.
There are universal messages in the Bible, the Koran, etc. and they are all good.
I believe that the authors of those good books have it all over Jesse Ventura when it comes to religious perspective...

Was gonna respond to a few other posts, but this one pretty much hits it on the head as far as my beliefs.

And also I/O's next one about how everybody should go with whatever improves their lives in their opinion , or whatever.

Everybody should do what makes them most happy, because as I/O says, 'we only do this once.'

Some people feel more comfortable sitting in a pew singing songs. Some are more comfortable being atheists and discard all of it.

Some are in the middle, perhaps like myself.

Nobody knows. Nobody CAN know.

That said, I think there is some allegorical merit to the Bible. I would hope that it would be human nature that 'Thou shalt not kill', and if that's not the case, then maybe our 'father' isn't so 'divine' afterall.

I really respect everyone here for giving their opinions openly without chastising others' differing opinons.

Good discussion where it could go really bad in an instant.

Praise God! ;)

I agree. I don't have anything against anyone who believes in God. We all have the right to believe in what we want. I have respect for everyone and their beliefs just as I feel they should respect mine

I agree that organized religions are very dangerous.

Millions of lives have been lost due to religion & most wars are fought over relgious ideals.

I am a not a relgious man, but I uncompromisingly believe in God, a higher power or whatever you wish to call it.

I have no problem w/ non-believers, questions or holy rollers.

Its all good in this neighborhood yo....

I'll also agree that "organized religion" is a problem. That's why there's such a rise in the non-denominational churches. I'm telling you non-church goers/disgruntled catholics, et al, it's totally different and refreshing.
