The problem with washington:
1. mark brunell, dont be fooled by last weeks performance against
Houston. Brunell is not a good QB in Al saunders system.
His first problem is his height 6'1". this makes it hard for
him to throw over the line without good passing lanes.
Trent Green is a pocket passer 6'3" and a good decision maker
which enables him to thrive in saunders system. Brunell
is a scrambler and out of pocket passer, better fit for the west coast
offense, think steve young or montana. When you take
this kind of player and switch them to a pocket passer,
generally speaking there is not good results. A few years back
I went to a Baltimore, Jacksonville game. Ray lewis
was out, and that left Brunell as the best player on the field
in my opinion. The way he eluded the blitz and found Fred taylor
and others downfield was amazing. But alas those days are
over for brunell. You are more likely to see him fumble
when under pressure than escape a rush.
So here you have an aging QB who never had a good arm, age has
taken away his legs, and he is learning a new system that
keeps him in the pocket. Not Good. He will be throwing over two beast
DT's Henderson 6'7 and Stroud 6'6". Which segways to the next problem
2. Running the ball against Jax. This is not Houston. this is
a dominating Defense who have given up only 177 yards on the
ground so far this year, and 38 total points. This is against
good offensive teams Indy Pitt Dallas.
3. Springs just what the redskins need, might play this week after
pulling a groin and having abdominal surgery. If he is back he certainly will be limited
if not. kenny Wright, Mike Rumph, Carlos Rogers all look like Highlight reels to me.
Washington has 3 sacks so far this year. If they wanna blitz thay look very suspect in the secondary
